Durham Forest Summer Day Camp Counsellor The Durham Forest Environmental Education Centre, located near Uxbridge, Ontario, is hiring for the position of Summer Camp Counsellor. The Durham Forest Summer Camp is a wilderness summer camp program with a focus on hands-on, inquiry-based learning in nature for youth ages 7-12 years old. We’re looking for two Counsellors/Instructors to work alongside with the Camp DIRECTOR to support this amazing program. The successful candidate must be available to work this full-time, fixed term role from June 17, 2024 until August 23, 2024. Job Duties: Under the guidance of DDSB staff, assist with the reopening of the Durham Forest Environmental Education Centre Assist in the development of summer camp programming, including planning and coordination with the Durham Forest Camp Director Collaboratively build a team culture, supervising campers, CIT and Volunteers Support to review and register campers, develop schedules - camper groups, counsellors, facilities, equipment Communicate in a timely and professional fashion with parents, caregivers, campers, and staff as directed by the Camp Director Assist to Maintain a database of supplies, purchase supplies Assist with trail and building maintenance and animal care throughout the summer Qualifications: Be enrolled in a post-secondary program for September 2024 Experience working with children Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to take on responsibility Excellent communication skills Experience with outdoor environmental programming and land-based inquiry learning for children Applicants must have current First Aid and CPR The DDSB is committed to equity and inclusion in the recruitment and hiring of qualified staff who reflect the diversity of our region.
