Our team is seeking a Senior Terrestrial Biologist with a deep knowledge and understanding of terrestrial wildlife and/or ecology in BC and related federal and provincial legislation. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of terrestrial biology projects in western and northern Canada, and for providing senior direction and support to marketing and business development activities related to terrestrial wildlife and/or ecology.     Responsibilities:  Manage project teams within Hatfield for the terrestrial biology components of permitting, assessment, and monitoring projects under the requirements of local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations, including: primary client contact; preparation and submission of all necessary design/report documents; meetings/presentations with/to clients and regulators/interest groups; scheduling; and budgets (development and tracking); providing technical guidance on environmental protection and environmental permitting, assessment, and monitoring.  Evaluate current programs and provide technical expertise related to terrestrial wildlife and ecology survey design.  Provide technical mentorship to junior wildlife biologists.  Support business development activities that will include actively promoting Hatfield’s terrestrial biology services to potential clients, strengthening existing corporate relationships, preparation of technical and financial proposals, and client negotiations.  Education and Experience:  Preferred Master’s degree in an appropriate field of study (e.g., Zoology, Animal Science, Ecology, or Biology) Relevant professional designation (e.g., RPBio) or eligible to apply.  Terrestrial biology experience should include managing and designing studies, and writing baseline reports, mitigation and management plans, and impact assessments.  Working knowledge of wildlife species, ecology, government legislation, and government agencies in western Canada.  Field skills in at least one of the following areas: ecology, bats, birds, small mammals, or large mammals.  A minimum of three years managing terrestrial biology projects at a senior level.  Experience and success in working in large, multi-disciplinary teams is essential.  Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork; and an ability/interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations.  Other Assets/Skills:  Experienced at providing terrestrial biology inputs for projects in various sectors and able to work well in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.  Excellent report writing and written/verbal communication skills.  Excellent problem-solving skills.  Analytical skills applicable to study design and statistical analysis or environmental data.  Hatfield is committed to employment equity and workplace diversity.
