About the role

The Occupational Health Nurse role offers will be responsible for providing emergency services, healthcare, workplace rehabilitation, wellness programs and worker education while promoting a healthy workplace at Evolution Mining Red Lake Operation.

 

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Administer first aid and primary care to employees and contractors
  • Occupational and non-occupational injury and illness claims management, and modified work program administration
  • Follow up with injured workers to ensure safe and timely return to work
  • Organize and provide worker health education and counselling services, including EAP
  • Coordinate and deliver various workplace testing programs, biological monitoring, and periodic medical surveillance
  • Administer drug and alcohol testing program for employees and contractors
  • Advocate for employees with supervisors, WSIB, insurance provider or physician, when necessary
  • Deliver worker training programs (e.g. First Aid & CPR)
  • Liaise with outside health organizations as needed
  • Keep complete and accurate employee medical records and ensure confidentiality
  • Compile statistical reports, as requested
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment

 

About you

As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will have a Bachelor of Science with active RN designation (or diploma in Nursing with active RPN designation) and unrestricted license to practice in Ontario. Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) is preferred.

 

It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:        

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Knowledge of underground mining and industrial occupational health
  • Certified as First Aid / Advanced First Aid/ Mental Health First Aid Instructor is an asset
  • Valid Class G driver’s license as some travelling may be involved
  • Demonstrated experience as a nurse with minimum 2 years in the mining industry specific to occupational health is preferred
  • Strong occupational and non-occupational claims management abilities
  • Extensive emergency treatment experience
  • Solid background in occupational health and industry-relevant needs
  • Certified in various testing procedures, equipment, and methods (audiometric, drug & alcohol, vision-screening, respirator fit testing, immunizations, IV competency, etc.)
  • Very familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants, Canadian Human Rights legislation
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all employee and company matters
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and comfortable working with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient documentation ability with strict attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, time management and planning capabilities
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable public speaking in large groups
  • Competent computer skills
  • Displays a high level of independence, motivation, and work ethic
  • Adapts well to constant change
  • Cooperative, flexible team player
  • Promotes a balanced and positive work environment
