  • A Diploma from an accredited College in a Health or Social Service Program, with an addiction concentration or complimented by other recognized/relevant Addiction Studies required
  • Valid certification in CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Intervention preferred or required within three months of start

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES (Personal Skills and Attributes)

  • Basic proficiency in the use of computers required
  • Proven experience working in the field of addictions required
  • Health and physical ability to assist/manage intoxicated clients required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop empathetic, professional relationships with chemically dependent/addicted individual required
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of the principles of Universal Precautions, harm reduction and crisis management required
  • Client assessment skills for monitoring withdrawal management symptoms and client's stage of readiness for change required
  • Proven ability to do a psycho-social assessment, individual work and group work preferred
  • Knowledge of pharmacology relevant to addictions medicine preferred
  • Knowledge of Agencies and Facilities available for treatment of addictions preferred
  • Demonstrated capacity for work in a stressful environment with rapidly changing demands preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to support and embrace the philosophy of Service Excellence and Patient and Family Centred Care.
  • Demonstrated participation in building a culture of safety and partnering others to improve the safety of patient care processes and systems-Demonstrated performance reflecting the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance

ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)

  • Provision of addictions care within addiction services
  • Providing counselling, support, and referrals to clients presenting at the RAAM clinic
  • Liasing with community agencies for purposes of referral and wrap around supports
  • Crisis intervention and support for clients
  • Screening, assessment, monitoring, provision of physical care, providing education and treatment options to the clients
  • Completing GAINS assessments
  • Formulation and documentation of a comprehensive care plan in collaboration with the client
  • Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention and aftercare support services
  • Outreach and administrative duties
  • Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Completes continuing education requirements
  • Assists with coverage on the withdrawal management unit as needed
