Corporate Legal Counsel

Montreal or GTA Hybrid

**18 month contract**

As the Corporate Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal support and direction to the Company in a wide range of commercial areas for Canada. You will provide general commercial legal support and advice in various commercial areas, including procurement, sales and marketing, manufacturing, human resources, privacy, compliance and regulatory.

The Corporate Counsel will report to the SVP and Assistant General Counsel who is based in New York, USA.

In the role of the Corporate Counsel, you will:

  • Support several aspects of the general operations of the Canadian business which includes a manufacturing facility.
  • Advise internal clients regarding commercial (sales and marketing) matters, contract disputes, and other commercial matters.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements/provide legal support with respect to procurement of raw materials and indirect items.
  • Support local compliance efforts including privacy.
  • Support procurement and strategic manufacturing operations.
  • Support for local regulatory requirements – food, environmental, Competition law, etc.
  • Collaborate and develop cross-functional relationships with internal clients as well as developing strong commercial partnerships to assist in driving the commercial agenda.
  • Support the local HR Director with general advice and co-ordination with counsel and more complex matters.
  • Support the Legal department’s efficiency initiatives through various internal projects and track and report on progress.

In order to be successful in the role of Corporate Counsel, you will have:

  • A Degree in Law from a recognized University.
  • Experience in general corporate law within a corporation and/or large law firm, min 5 years.
  • Experience in Canadian laws and business practices.
  • Ideally have industry experience from a Food & Beverage or Pharmaceutical background.
  • Technical Legal expertise.
  • Experience of complex negotiation skills.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills, including the ability to multi-task.
