Speech-language Pathologist

FIREFLY is seeking regular, full-time Speech-Language Pathologists for various FIREFLY locations including Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, and Kenora. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Speech-Language Pathologist will provide clinical services such as, but not limited to, screening, assessment, intervention and home programming for children with communication impairments. The individual filling this position will benefit from the availability of additional Speech-Language Pathologists working within the Agency and access to a mentor.

Key Job Functions :

  • Engage in the screening, assessment, interpretation and rehabilitation of individuals with speech and language impairments
  • Provide information and support to family/caregivers to facilitate an understanding of client’s needs and assist clients with funding and purchasing information for aids and equipment
  • Facilitates access to community resources necessary to promote the optimal level of functioning of the client and family/caregiver
  • Supervise and work closely with Communication Assistants
  • Liaise with service providers and other care givers and educators to meet identified needs and enhance delivery of care
  • Respect Service Agreement by providing written assessment, progress notes, discharge summaries and complete necessary documentation including statistical sheets
  • Maintain documentation as per C.A.S.L.P.O. Guidelines and FIREFLY policies and procedures
  • Extensive travel required

Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders
  • Member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and facilitation skills
  • Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Authorizer status is an asset
  • Previous experience working in a community setting is an asset
  • Experience with children who have multiple needs is an asset
  • Current valid Driver's License
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe culture, First Nation communities and language is a definite asset
  • Fluency in French would be an asset
  • Travel within the service region is required, including travel to the Far North communities
