Cedar Heights is looking for caring, enthusiastic, energetic, and professional individuals to work with children, adolescents and adults within our homes located in (Mono, Orangeville, Tottenham, Stouffville, Markham, Richmond Hill and Stayner). Cedar Heights offers a dynamic workplace in a rapidly growing organization.

Cedar Heights specializes in working with complex care clients diagnosed with neuro diversions such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Direct Support Professionals provide individuals with high levels of support and supervision in all areas of daily living including; education, behaviour supports, community involvement and recreation.

On-site/Off-site training is provided. Also made available to all employees are opportunities to participate in various workshops to further develop skills and knowledge on how to better support our clients.

Pay

  • $23.00- $26.00 per hour (inclusive of the government wage enhancement) to start

Languages

  • Verbal and Written Communication in English is required
  • Proficiency in other languages considered an asset

Required Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (completed or in progress) Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Worker/ Child and Youth Care, Disability Support Worker or other related fields.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (completed or in progress) Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Worker/ Child and Youth Care, Disability Support Worker or other related fields.
  • Obtain a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector (current within 6 months)
  • Complete an Employee Medical Test with Hep B, and 2-part TB test
  • Provide proof of Immunization record
  • Consent to CAS SAFE records check
  • Possess $1,000,000 Liability Automobile Insurance
  • Possess Valid G Driver's License.
  • Have access to a vehicle at work
  • Experience is encouraged but not required if related education is complete
  • Possess First Aid/ CPR- Level C

  • DSW, CYW, SSW, with experience in the field
  • Experience working with children and/ or youth with disabilities

  • Experience in Trauma Informed Care
  • Experience managing and responding to crisis situations
  • Experience in medication administration
  • Cooking and cleaning skills
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work with mínimal supervision
  • Ability to set priorities to manage time within deadlines
  • Ability to follow direction and work as a member of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills Strong written and verbal communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Support Professionals are responsible for creating and implementing therapeutic programming with an emphasis on life skills and personal development as well as client advocacy within and outside the agency. Direct Support Professionals need to be familiar and adhere to the organization's core values and mission statement and must participate in the agency's training and workshops. The Overnight (awake) Direct Support Professional provides hygiene support and daily living support for all residents. The position entails cleaning, food preparation, room safety checks, and some clerical duties (ie; filing).
