Director, Human Resources, Nairn Centre, Ontario When you join our team as a Director, Human Resources, you will be the strategic business partner to the Vice Presidents of our Eastern Operations and our Vice President, Woodlands & Chief Forester and is responsible for providing HR leadership and day-to-day support to HR staff in the field across the Eastern region in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick comprised of 11 sawmills and 2 woodlands. This position will partner with operational leadership to deliver the region’s strategic HR activities, administer labour and employee relations events, and effectively implement HR programs and initiatives. This role is also connected to our HR Centres of Excellence and partners effectively with the corporate HR team and the Operational HR team. This role can be based out of our Nairn Centre or Timmins location.What You’ll DoKey Accountabilities:Business Partner: Partner with operational leadership to align HR strategies to deliver operating results. Labour Relations: Responsible for negotiation and administration of thecollective agreements in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.Corporate Interface: Key interface with operations to the corporate HR group to communicate and coordinate key requirements for the Leader:Participate as an active member of the HR team in setting the HR priorities/strategies for the region. HR Service Delivery: Responsible for theefficient use of the HR service delivery model to support the needs of the business. Talent & Succession: Develop talent and succession strategies to create robust pipelines of operational leadership. Compliance: Ensure compliance (provincial, federal, etc.) with internal and external requirements.Partner with operations and corporate stakeholders toensure a high-performance culture centered on safety and operational excellence. Build and maintaintrustworthy relationships with business leaders to develop strong operational and HR alignment.Assess the need for training programs relating to HR initiatives including recruiting, employee coaching, Learning & Development needs and diversity/respectful workplace. Liaise with other HR leaders to ensure consistent approach and delivery of programs.Build tools for front-line leaders to navigate and document labour and employee relations issues.Collect, analyse, and report out on key HR metrics.Lead employee and labor relations efforts within the region, including effective negotiations with organized labor groups to achieve common operational goals at each site. Lead and/or oversee confidential investigations of issues as needed. Advise and counsel management to prevent or resolve workplace issues; conduct investigations as required, coach and support other leaders in conducting investigations, engage support when needed, and recommendappropriate solutions. Oversee strategic labour relations including assisting with labour negotiations, provide advice for Step 3 grievances, be the main point of contact for arbitrations and responsible for collaborating between business leaders and legal representation.Work with safety leaders on issues that may have a direct impact on labour and employment issues. Provide advice and guidance and oversee the leave management and return to work process.What You OfferBachelor’s degree in Business, preferably in Management/Human ResourcesMinimum of 10-15 years of human resources experience directly related to the duties of the position.Previous experience working with HR team members and employees working in geographically dispersed locations and ability to make HR policies and practices effective in spite of distance.Strong organizational and project management experience preferredPrior experience in a manufacturing environment is required; lumber-specific or M&A integration experience is highly desirable. Active CPHR, PHR or SPHR certification preferred. Intermediate to advanced level proficiency in MS Office Suite. Experience with Canadian labour laws (province specific experience is preferred).Ability to work in a matrix organization – partnering strategically with both Operations and Corporate functions.Ability to get involved in front-line issues while being able to speak professionally and strategically to senior leadersDemonstrated capabilities using HR systems, familiarity with ADP payroll, time & attendance programs,intermediate level of capability in HRIS and report-writing. Ability to interact positively and productively (through written and verbal communication) across functions within the organization, within the Human Resources department, and with key external contacts. Ability to anticipate, identify, quantify, and resolve problems in a timely and positive manner, viewing obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow. Ability to collect and analyze HR data and provide fact-based recommendations to management. Ability to effectively plan, organize and oversee day-to-day responsibilities of the function(s) assigned.
