Pension Team Leader

We are seeking a Pension Team Leader to join our Coughlin team in Ottawa. The Pension Team Leader is responsible for all aspects of administration, including compliance with plan provisions and applicable pension legislation. They are responsible for coordinating and facilitating day-to-day activities and setting up the priorities of the pension team. The Pension Team Leader will :

  • Adding, changing, or deleting member information in the database system.
  • Maintaining a variety of logs and lists that track the activities of the Pension Department.
  • Creating and maintaining individual pension files containing the member’s account details, benefit calculations, and correspondence.
  • Playing a lead role in the set-up of a new pension client.
  • Enhancing the system, as required.
  • Electronic data and document maintenance to include scanning, faxing, filing, destroying, photocopying, data entry and any processes required to prepare documents for these actions.
  • Verifying work and data in the scope of the position for accuracy and completion.
  • Mailing forms, booklets, bulletins, and other matters as required.
  • Prioritizing work to ensure effective time management.
  • Providing general guidance and support to staff while fostering good morale and conflict resolution.
  • Approving employee timesheets using the company's Time Information Management System.
  • Co-ordinating and scheduling the activities of the department, including assigning work based on schedules, priorities, and individual capabilities, as well as establishing methods to meet work schedules and monitoring work progress and quality by conducting periodic checks with employees.

To be successful as a Pension Team Leader with Coughlin & Associates, you will need**:

  • Strong leadership abilities, including coordinating workflow, training subordinates, motivating a team, and motivating individual performance.
  • Knowledge of the administration of Pension Benefits and of the particular policies for each of the administered groups.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding in all areas of pension administration for Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans; including the Federal and Provincial legislation, the Family Law Act and the Income Tax Act (as it pertains to pensions).
  • Working knowledge of the ability to extract, interpret, and simplify information from various technical sources.
  • Good knowledge of annual filing regulations, procedures and requirements.
  • RPA or CEBS designation
  • SOA exam completion
