Family Counsellor - Internal posting *only internal applicants will be considered at this time* Position Title: Permanent Full Time Family Counsellor Hours of work: Flexible (35 hours per week) Salary: $30.40/hr Competition Number: FC-09-24 Position Summary The Family Counsellor provides individual and group counselling sessions. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide case management and counselling services for women and children that are consistent with the philosophy, goals and objectives established by Beendigen’s Healing Our Own Programs within an Anishinabe Health and Wellness Framework. Key Responsibilities/ Duties - Work from a wholistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather teachings. - Utilize Elders for teachings, healing and guidance. - Take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables. - Provide individual and group counselling sessions/programming to women and children dealing with family violence issues within an Anishinabe Health and Wellness Framework. - Participate in the development and implementation of new or revised services offered by the Program or within the community. - Participate as a team member of the organization in achieving the goals and objective of the Organization. - Provide written program information and statistics required by the supervisor or head office. - Maintain assessment reports, case documentation, record keeping and summary notes in accordance with Best Practices. - Develop and distribute resource materials on an on-going basis to clinics, hospitals, emergency waiting rooms, doctor’s offices, health units, police stations, law offices, school, and any other institutions offering service to the public. - Constructively participate in all staff and team meetings, seminars and training sessions as required by the Clinical Supervisor or designate. - Prepare monthly reports as required. - Participate in developing program brochures and public education activities. - Ensure Health and Safety compliance in the workplace by following policies, procedures and best practices and reporting any unsafe environments. - Follow confidential handling of client information as dictated by Privacy Legislation Constructively participate in staff meetings, seminars and training sessions as required. - Adhere to all policies and procedures. - Ensure adherence to program Best Practices. - Be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the Organization. - Preserve confidentiality of all residents, clients, staff, students, volunteers and agency information. - Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times. Any other duties as requested by the Program Manager; commensurate with role. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Experience in group work and wholistic healing. Preferred: Experience working in an Indigenous organization. Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree an asset Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge and experience in family violence issues. Excellent clinical skills and specialized training in family counselling and/or sexual abuse. Excellent organizational, time, and general management skills. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability in problem solving and ethical decision-making. Demonstrated ability to engage clients through the use of sound judgment, good observation and attending skills, tact and empathy. Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative, with limited supervision. Employment is subject to: - Providing a successful Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) - Flexible hours of work (35 hrs/wk) - Must have a valid Class “G” Driver’s license, use of an automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required. - Must have First Aid CPR & AED Level C Certification - Must sign Oath of Confidentiality - Must have Ontario Safe Food Handler Certification. - Must be fully Covid Vaccinated or have an exemption. - Must have use of a working cellular device and be able to download and use work required applications.
