Position Title : LiveWell Clinical Exercise Physiologist & Regional Lead

Reports To : LiveWell Provincial Lead and YMCA of Cumberland County

Position Status : Part-time; 15 hours per week

Compensation : $27.00 - $33.00 per hour

Start Date : Immediately

Location : YMCA of Cumberland County

The Opportunity

The LiveWell program represents best practice exercise programming for people managing chronic conditions. It was developed and supported by university researchers and YMCAs. Using a three-phase approach, the program guides participants through progressive exercise strategies, in a client centred

  • group setting. The LiveWell program is intended as a resource for community members with stable medical conditions, or multiple co-morbidities, who are wanting to improve their wellbeing. The goal is to help aging adults become and remain active.

This position will facilitate the program at the YMCA of Cumberland County. You will serve as a critical role in growing the program in the region by administering assessments, facilitating classes and knowledge translation. You will work closely with the local YMCA and Provincial Lead to the successful mandate of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Work with LiveWell senior program lead, local YMCA fitness professionals and program managers to support participants managing chronic conditions in three phases of programing.
  • With the insight of the senior program lead, systemize and work with regional membership staff, to onboard participants into the appropriate LiveWell program
  • Develop exercise programs for participants and individualize exercise prescriptions in a group setting
  • Deliver/manage or oversee exercise sessions
  • Monitor participants’ exercise technique and supervise program instructors, assistants and/or students
  • Document program information, participant outcomes (fitness testing) participant use
  • Liaise with relevant partners/stakeholders

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor of Kinesiology/Bachelor of Science (Kinesiology) degree (or equivalent)
  • CSEP or ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist
  • Experience recognizing, assessing and supporting marginalized populations through a health promotion, social determinant of health (SDH) lens
  • Documented experience doing fitness assessment, physical activity counselling and exercise prescription and management with individuals with chronic conditions (cardiovascular, metabolic, musculo-skeletal and aging conditions)
  • Excellent oral, communication and counselling skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and be comfortable working in a team
  • Be empathetic with an effective ability to develop rapport with patients, particularly older adults
  • Ability to conduct individual fitness evaluations, health histories and program evaluations, and summarize results in reports (using data base like Excel)
