Overview: A stylist-in-training is a temporary 90-day position designed to identify top talent and integrate an unlicensed, future stylist into the salon workplace and to help them learn the business. They will gain valuable insight from top, innovative stylists in the industry. The stylist-in-training must receive their license and apply for the stylist position to be considered for promotion. More specifically, the stylist-in-training’s duties include: Market and grow the businessObserve other stylists/managers at work and ask relevant questions Model the way for other stylists and set the paceProvide exceptional customer servicePromote and sell services and retail productsAnswer telephones, stock and dust shelves, and sweep hairComplete all other duties as assigned by manager To be considered for the promotion, the stylist-in-training must: Possess a valid appropriate license in his/her applicable state of employmentHave the ability to perform the duties of the license requirements that their state allows, including, but not limited to: cutting, styling, coloring, providing wax treatments, and washing/perming hair with or without an accommodationHas demonstrated an ability to uphold the highest clientele standards, develop relationships to ensure repeat visits, and acted as a team player within the salon. Responsibilities Ability to follow direction from the salon manager and stay on track with communicated expectationsPromote and sell services and products, including recommending and selling additional services and/or retail products which will enhance and improve the customer’s image and/or contribute to the customer’s satisfaction with services performedClearly convey a complete understanding of pricing for available servicesResponsible for sales to walk-in retail customersUnderstand the needs of the customer, greet each customer professionally by name, escort all clients through the salon, give salon tour when necessaryEstimate wait times for scheduled and unscheduled appointmentsAnswer the telephone promptly and professionallyHandle general complaints and refer customer service issues to the managerFollow weekly salon schedules as directed by Salon ManagerCorrectly charge for services rendered and products purchased, including proper discounting according to Company policySafeguard company assets by adhering to company policies and proceduresAnswering telephones, stocking shelves, sweeping hair and other duties as assigned by managerCommunicate effectively with management, customers and co-workers in a professional and courteous mannerMaintain and uphold safety standards by identifying and correcting conditions that affect salon safetyAttend work timely and consistently, including attending mandatory staff meetings, training sessions or as otherwise required by managementAdhere to all corporate policies, procedures and work rulesHandle all POS transactions including opening and closing the register Qualifications: Must graduate from an accredited cosmetology school and obtain the necessary license(s) to perform salon services within or before 90 days of hire-dateAbility to work in a dynamic salon environmentGood time management skills, good judgment, and the ability to multi-taskWell-developed interpersonal skills to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with customers, co-workers, and managementComputer knowledge including but not limited to point-of- sale systems and data entryAbility to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends Physical Requirements: Standing for sustained periods of timeFrequent lifting up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 25 poundsContinuous repetitive movement with fingers, hands, wrists and armsContinuous grasping and reaching, often above shoulder levelAbility to be exposed to various chemicals and fragrances used in performing servicesAbility to observe guest’s hair, including close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focusAbility to communicate with guest regarding services offered and requested and the guest’s needs and wants The Beautiful Group is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating a diverse, multicultural and inclusive environment.
