POSITION OVERVIEW

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Risk Assessment: Conducting regular assessments of workplace hazards and identifying potential risks to employee health and safety. This involves evaluating processes, equipment, and working conditions to determine areas that require improvement or corrective actions.
  • Safety Policies and Procedures: Developing, implementing, and updating safety policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with legal regulations and industry standards. These guidelines help prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses by providing clear instructions and best practices for employees to follow.
  • Training and Education: Delivering or arranging health and safety training programs for employees at all levels. This includes educating workers on proper equipment use, emergency response procedures, and hazard awareness. Regular training sessions help promote a safety culture and ensure employees are well-informed about potential risks and how to mitigate them.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigating workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and develop strategies for prevention. This involves gathering information, conducting interviews, analyzing data, and making recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Regularly monitoring and evaluating the workplace to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and standards. This may involve conducting inspections, audits, and reviews to identify any non-compliance issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Collaborating with management and relevant departments to develop emergency response plans and procedures. This includes conducting drills, testing evacuation procedures, and ensuring the availability of necessary safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
  • Communication and Promotion: Acting as a point of contact for employees regarding health and safety concerns and inquiries. A health and safety advisor may organize safety campaigns, distribute informational materials, and raise awareness about best practices. They also collaborate with management to communicate safety-related updates and initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitoring industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to ensure that health and safety programs and practices remain up to date. Proactively seeking opportunities for improvement and recommending measures to enhance workplace safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Minimum of 3 years of similar Safety experience in mining/heavy industry/construction environments
  • Working knowledge and experience with health & safety legislation, rules, regulations and reporting processes and procedure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is a requirement

  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off
  • 10-hour days
  • Flexibility in work schedule
  • Travel to exploration sites across NorthWestern Ontario
