Infrastructure Services currently has two (2) Summer Roads Labourer positions available from June until September 2024.

The goal of these positions is to assist in the development of their employment skills and pursuit of their education and career goals. Our mission is to provide an interesting and valuable work experience which in turn benefits the citizens of Woolwich by providing quality service in the planning, maintenance, and operation of Public Works.

Responsibilities and Requirements : Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, this position will involve performing general roads maintenance activities on Township roads and roadsides including, but not limited to, debris pickup, grass trimming with power trimmers, pot hole filling, drainage maintenance, guide rail repairs, minor bridge maintenance, sign maintenance, dead animal removal, yard cleanup, traffic control duties and other duties as assigned.

The work requires manual dexterity and visual attention to detail, standing, frequent bending and lifting of materials and tools up to 50kgs. You may periodically have to push or pull equipment or materials up to 100kgs. The work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, at times exposing the worker to extreme heat, rain, wind, dust and noise from equipment and vehicular traffic.

The ability to read and understand material safety data sheets, product labels as well as basic writing and arithmetical skills is a necessity. You must have good communication skills to receive and comprehend instructions, interact positively with supervisors, staff and the general public and function as an effective team member. You must be able to complete applicable vehicle maintenance checklists and maintain a daily log of activities.
