Job Title: Labour and Employee Relations Specialist

Location: Montreal Head Office

Reporting to: Vice-President, Human Resources

Job Summary : Administer the organization’s established human resource programs to be implemented efficiently and equitably and comply with all relevant collective agreements, individual employment contracts, regulations, laws, and the organization’s employment policies and standards.

The Labour and Employee Relations Specialist will report directly to the corporate VP of HR for Swissport Canada.

Responsibilities : Labor relations

  • Advise on disciplinary matters for union and non-union employees.
  • Address complaints or concerns identified by the union.
  • Prepare for and participate in labor-management committees.
  • Manage and resolve grievances with union representatives.
  • Prepare arbitration cases, working with legal counsel as necessary.
  • Provide training to management on the Collective Bargaining Agreement, HR policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare company proposals for and participate in collective bargaining.
  • Participate in CBA negotiations.
  • Investigate complaints under the company's national harassment and violence policy.
  • Manage and direct the review of all complaints maintain a list and follow up with stations across Canada.

Employee Relations

  • Update/develop/implement policies and procedures as required.
  • Contribute to world-class employee satisfaction by implementing relevant organizational initiatives that build on employee engagement and experience.
  • Be the guardian and responsible for all reporting to all stakeholders (Pay Equity Act, Accessibility Act, Diversity, and Inclusion, etc.).
  • Be responsible for all current and future employee initiatives and programs (recognition, milestones, OneApp, Bravo, ID90, etc.).
  • Stay abreast of the employee relations climate in the organization and industry and suggest changes and trends.

Disability management

  • Oversee and participate in the return-to-work program (both permanent/temporary and vocational/non-vocational accommodations).
  • Manage accommodation files.
  • Work hand in hand with the third-party disability management vendor.
  • Ensure compliance with various laws and regulatory bodies, including the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Code, etc.
  • Represent the company before various government agencies including HRSDC, Worker Compensation Board (WSIB, WorkSafe BC, CNESST, etc.), Human Rights Commission and Tribunal, and Transport Canada.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • University degree in human resources management or industrial and labor relations.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an HR role with a strong focus on labor relations.
  • Good knowledge of federal labor legislation (an asset).
  • Experience in the airline industry (a plus).
  • Experience working in a changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English with the ability to influence a variety of audiences.
  • Support managers in the implementation of performance management processes within their country/station.
  • Monitor the achievement of the action plan against HR milestones and KPIs (e.g., employee satisfaction, productivity, retention).
