Care Gateway Pharmacy works in partnership with Care Gateway Medical Clinics to support patients with a full range of medical care. We work with partners outside the organization to provide a wide variety of wraparound services to people experiencing addiction.

Our clinics also provide services in women and children’s health, youth mental health, learning disabilities, smoking cessation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Hepatitis C management, HIV PREP; and we have full on-site pharmacy services. Care Gateway operates locations in both Wetaskiwin and Red Deer.

Responsibilities

Pharmacy assistant/technicians will work under the direction of a pharmacist. In general, they:

  • Gather and enter patient information and doctors’ prescriptions in computer systems
  • Assess prescriptions for completeness
  • Receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from prescribers
  • Prepare, package, and dispense prescription medications after a pharmacist has determined appropriateness of therapy
  • Compound drugs and blood products
  • Maintain prescription and inventory record-keeping systems
  • Maintain proper drug storage and security
  • Place and receive orders to maintain inventory
  • Instruct clients about the use of health aids and devices
  • Provide patients with non-drug product information
  • Accept payment for prescriptions
  • Prepare and reconcile third-party insurance claims and records
  • Participate in health promotion, such as disease management screening and consultation clinics
  • Communicate in a professional and collaborative nature with Care Gateway Medical Clinic team and other health care professionals as needed

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of pharmacy practice with emphasis on interdisciplinary team approaches
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing, in person, on the telephone and electronically
  • Ability to work in a busy medical office environment, with mínimal support
  • Good organizational skills
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of patient records
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Experience in MMT and suboxone preferred
  • Ability to establish a professional rapport with and instill confidence in patients and colleagues
  • Ability to deal effectively with difficult behavior sometimes exhibited by people in distress

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy experience
  • A Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check

Job Types : Part-time, Casual Part-time hours: 6-12 per week

Salary : $20.00-$28.00 per hour
