Physician Assistant (6 Month Term) (2 Positions)

Reports to : Patient Care Manager

Job Summary : The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is seeking a Physician Assistant who, under the direction and supervision of a physician, will work as a member of the clinical team to provide care to patients and their families with a responsible and professional approach.

Qualifications :

  • Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant program
  • Certified or eligible to be certified through the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Active membership in good standing with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement and willingness to actively participate in continuous quality improvement activities/initiatives.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to prioritize, organize and work independently as well as a team member
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Job Duties :

  • Collaborate with all physicians, nurses, professional staff, etc., to ensure quality in patient care
  • Conduct comprehensive physical and mental assessments of patients and interpret findings. This includes assessment of vital signs and examination of all major body systems (ie: psychosis, intoxication, overdose etc.)
  • Request and interpret diagnostic tests (ie: laboratory, X-ray, ultrasounds, etc.) and communicate results thoroughly to patients
  • Acquire health history as appropriate, including patient demographics, history of an illness or injury, past medical, surgical, family and psychosocial history, medications, allergies and systems review
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans while monitoring patients’ progress and response to treatment
  • Develop ethical, professional and trustworthy relationships with patients, families and the health care team
  • Collect blood samples, body secretions and body fluids
  • Participate in research and academic initiatives
  • Provide patient care in a manner that is consistent with SLMHC mission and reflects core values
