The Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres (MAFC) is seeking a Policy and Research Analyst to support the needs of the Association and all member Friendship Centres in Manitoba. MANITOBA ASSOCIATION OF FRIENDSHIP CENTRES (MAFC): The purpose of MAFC is to unify the member Friendship Centres of Manitoba into one strong voice addressing issues at the local, Provincial and National levels, for the betterment of urban Indigenous people. MAFC provides administration of current Federal and Provincial program funding to 11 Friendship Centres. We are governed by a Board of Directors with representation from all of Manitoba's Friendship Centres. Our collective objective is: To improve the quality of life for Indigenous people by supporting self-determined activities; to encourage equal access and participation in society; to respect and strengthen the increasing emphasis on Indigenous cultural distinctiveness; to remain status blind, non-partisan and non-sectarian. POSITION SUMMARY: The Policy and Research Analyst is a full-time position that provides support to the Executive Director in the oversight and management of Research priorities, Policy development and working within the partnership with the University of Winnipeg's NEIHR program. As an employee of the Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres, the Policy and Research Analyst is responsible for adhering to the policies and direction as determined by the Board of Directors of MAFC, and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. Policy and Research Analyst Duties: • Implement the Research and Policy workplan as identified by the Board of Directors, the Policy and Constitution Committee and the Executive Director as required.• Conduct research, surveys, analyses, and compile data.• Liaise with identified stakeholders including Friendship Centre Executive Directors, the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) Data Strategy and the University of Winnipeg NEIHR Grant partnership, etc.• Provide technical support to MAFC Committees, specifically the Policy and Constitution Committee and other working groups as required.• Attend meetings on behalf of the Association as required.• Preparation of briefing notes and meeting reports.• Generation of reports and data analysis.• Maintain program records and create reports and proposals as required.• Support program growth and strategies for program development.• Ensure appropriate implementation of MAFC program policies and practices.• Manage related communications.• Assist in the administration of office functions and all other duties as assigned and directed.• Represent MAFC on external committees as assigned.Requirements:• Knowledge of research and policy development.• Understanding of budgeting, bookkeeping and financial reporting.• Proficient in all office functions -MS Office.• Awareness of current and historic issues relating to urban Indigenous people.• Ability to work with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.• Ability to manage time with minimal supervision.• Leadership and organizational skills.• Excellent communication skills.• Excellent problem-solving ability.• Ability to take accurate meeting minutes as required.Preferences:A post-secondary degree in political studies, political science, social sciences or a related fieldExperience in policy creation/amendment HOW TO APPLY:Submit a resume and cover letter outlining how you meet the specific requirements of the position to: Matthew Slusky, Executive Director 73 Hargrave StreetWinnipeg, MBR3C 1N3Or by email to: matthew.slusky@friendshipcentres.ca* Preference will be given to persons who have current or past involvement in the Friendship Centre Movement.* Preference will be given to persons of Indigenous ancestry.* Fluency in the English language.* Applicants must have clear criminal and child abuse registry checks.* Applicants must have access to transportation.
