Overview The Recreation and Culture Department seeks two (2) people with outstanding work ethic and a safety first attitude to join their team on a Casual basis. This is manual work of some complexity and responsibility in leading the set up and take down of special event equipment at various indoor and outdoor recreation and culture activities within the City. An incumbent operates a light weight, heavy duty or box truck; loads, transports and unloads a stage, materials, tools, equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work and considerable related experience including some leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; Requirements :

  • Provides manual work support for various indoor and outdoor recreation and culture activities within the City; sets up and takes down equipment such as tents, stages, tables, chairs, pier banner and other special event equipment.

  • Follows set-up maps, checklists and schedules;

  • Provides feedback and recommendations on outcome of special event set-ups to a superior;

  • Sound knowledge of set-up procedures and equipment used in special events at various indoor and outdoor locations within and outside the City;

  • Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation;

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, to resolve problems and to make decisions in accordance with the applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;

  • Ability to use tools such as ladders, wrenches, drills and screwdrivers;

  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license;

  • Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check.
