Gilmore Partners has been retained by Canso Investment Counsel Ltd. (Canso) to help with their Human Resources Generalist addition to their team.

Canso provides portfolio management services to institutional and private investors. The Canso aircraft, our namesake, first flew in the 1930s. Over its many years of service, it has earned a reputation for rugged reliability in both war and peace. Our focus on investment research and analysis might not be as exciting or popular at times as other ways of managing money. Like the legendary endurance and range of the Canso, it consistently adds value to our portfolios in the turbulence of the financial markets.

Reporting to the Vice President of Human and Corporate Capital, the Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for handling the day-to-day HR aspects of Canso and its related companies.

The HR Generalist is primarily responsible for five pillars within Canso – Recruitment, Compensation and benefits, HRIS, Employee Communication and Charitable Giving.

This role is an in-office role located in Canso’s office in Richmond Hill at Highway 404 and 7.

Job Duties

• Handling the recruitment process from start to finish for all non-executive level hires, utilizing both internal and external resources. This means everything right from job need analysis to job descriptions through interviewing, offers, and background checks to onboarding.

• The running of our summer intern program.

• Enrollment of employees into our benefit plan.

• Communicating changes in benefit plan aspects to employees.

• Answering questions regarding the benefit plan and general administration.

• Helping to integrate the new HRIS.

• Handling employee communication for Canso and its related companies.

• Handling the employee newsletters.

• Helping to ensure the Canso town halls go according to plan.

• Manage the Canso charitable giving initiatives both internally as well as with our external non-profit partners.

• Work with our charitable sponsorship programs.

Requirements

• University degree in business administration, human resources management, or a related field required.

• Certification in human resources management by a provincial governing body preferred (CHRP).

• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a human resources specialist or generalist position, ideally within a small to medium-sized professional services firm.

• Able to make sound business decisions and evidence-based recommendations to senior management.

• Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.

• Computer literacy, including effective working skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
