Every year, approximately 240,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste is converted into 910,000 tonnes of steam and up to 170,000 MWh of electricity, providing both economic and environmental benefits. For more information on the Burnaby facility, visit .We seek a dedicated individual who will be responsible for performing various mechanical, maintenance and repair work including the inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment. The Mechanic will inspect and adjust the mechanical alignment of pumps, replace or rebuild pumps, replace fan bearings, replace motors, repair screw conveyors, rebuild or change gearboxes, install and modify pipelines, and assist in the modification and addition of plant projects. The ability to weld is a key requirement for this position.All candidates for this position must be team-oriented with the drive, leadership and motivation to positively contribute to our long-term success.To qualify you should have at least three years of Canadian power plant or equivalent industrial experience. Candidate must hold a minimum of an Industrial Mechanic/Millwright certification as well as a valid BC driver’s license and high school diploma or GED.Preference will be given to a candidate who:Holds a welding and/or pipefitting trade certificate. Is experienced and skilled in reading and interpreting documents such as technical drawings, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other procedure manuals.Has strong written and oral communication skillsHas previous experience working with computer-based maintenance management tracking systems such as Oracle.Is competent with the MS office suite of programsCan demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.Has previous experience with turbines, crane grapples, and other common equipment in the waste to energy industryDuties require frequent and extended periods of outside and inside work, subject to all weather conditions and extremes; continuous walking, standing, climbing and frequent periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions; regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion, requiring the ability to lift, carry and position heavy objects utilizing proper body mechanics and techniques; operation of tools and equipment which cause loud noise and vibrations.This is a Union Position36 hour work week / rotating scheduleMust be able to work various shifts including afternoons and weekendsCurrent Starting rate of pay is $ per hour#LI-AR1Our DEI commitment
