ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: Are you a dynamic and creative individual who has a passion for working with seniors and leading engaging programs for our residents? Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, our Life Enrichment Assistants facilitate, plan, and organize programs to enhance the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of wellness for our residents. This role is critical in creating resident-centric environments where our residents are inspired to experience fulfillment - whatever that means to them. BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATION: Minimum of grade 12 education required. Prior experience in recreation programming for a senior population is preferred. Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of Recreation, Physical Education, and/or Gerontology is considered an asset. Certified in Emergency First Aid, and CPR required. Has demonstrated excellent leadership skills. CanFitPro certification preferred. Proven computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite with an adaptability to handle database programs. Dementia experience/knowledge is considered an asset. A resident-oriented individual, whose visions and values align with those of the residence. Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language. Be able to work with minimal supervision and demonstrates a strong ability to problem solve. Has demonstrated multi-tasking skills and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment. Class 5 license is an asset KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Participates in and adheres to continuous quality improvement standards. Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the activities relating to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents. Communicates activities of the department to residents, staff, families and the community to encourage participation in programs, while ensuring the needs of residents are met. Completes and distributes monthly activity calendars, surveys, invitations, etc. in a timely manner. Responsible for leading and promoting resident awareness and participation, in leisure, social and recreation programs that meet the needs of the residents. Assists in the maintenance of appropriate department records including attendance, assessments, and evaluations of planned programs. Maintains a positive image of the residence through ongoing communications with the community, local media, family members, staff, and volunteers, by helping to fulfill each resident’s unique leisure needs. Assists in the direction and supervision of participants in the volunteer and student placement programs. Participates in the annual CanFitPro Exercise program to carry out proper exercise classes which are applicable to seniors. Maintains established department plans, policies, and procedures regarding such items as quality of programming, treatment of residents, infection control and safety. Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers, residents and guests. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff. Performs other duties as assigned by the Life Enrichment Manager or delegate. Complies with all corporate policies and procedures. Completes all required mandatory training/education. Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention, and Pest Control programs and any other programs as required. All offers of employment are subject to a Criminal Background Check.
