The MMGB team is accountable for developing and executing on EDC’s 2030 Mid-Market Strategy for high growth/high potential companies and ultimately driving impact for Canada. The success of MMGB and in turn EDC’s Mid-Market Strategy, would be measured by the success and growth of the Canadian companies benefiting from EDC’s high intensity integrated solutions delivery approach which includes differentiated growth capital, advisory expertise and market expansion.Position OverviewThe Strategic Relationship Director's (SRD) primary responsibility is to engage and build strong strategic relationships with, and become a trusted partner to, high growth Canadian medium-sized companies. The SRD will gain deep insights in terms of challenges, strategic direction, growth plans, and bespoke needs, and this will be achieved by developing a deep trust-based partnering relationship at multiple levels of key C-suite officers of Canadian high growth medium-sized companies.Collaboratively within one medium segment team the SRD identifies target medium-sized companies as per the Customer Strategy Team’s prospecting strategy, which includes identifying the growth maturity stage of mid-market cos and developing growth thesis. The SRD engages companies to develop deeper, partnership-like relationships, gains an intimate understanding of each companies’ industry, sector, current business objectives, and drivers. In addition to a deep passion, the SRD will demonstrate a keen sense of intellectual curiosity to understand businesses as well as hold an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to problem solving.The SRD works in an Agile environment within a Customer Delivery Team (CDT) on co-creating highly customized and integrated financial and non-financial solutions to meet the needs during key growth inflection points. The SRD will utilize their influencing and collaboration skills and share insight with an integrated and dedicated account team of growth architects and subject matter specialists. The CDT has ultimate accountability for the overall relationships with the shared responsibility for the development and implementation of solutions supporting the success of those medium-sized companies and with the intensity of involvement of the various CDT members depending on the execution of the appropriate solutions. Key Responsibilities Identifies later stage growth medium-sized companies, develops strategic relationships with the objective of being recognized as a trusted-partner offering relevant potential solutions and servicesActs as a trusted advisor, making proactive recommendations to the Senior management of targeted companies around growth and scaling challenges with a focus on global expansion and competing internationallyWorks within a Customer Delivery Team composed of product, growth and knowledge specialists who have shared responsibility for the development of strategies and implementation of solutions to provide impact and expand each account relationshipAccountable for the overall customer relationship and pilots the co-development of creatively tailored and customized solutionsProactively cultivates and strengthens relationships with medium sized companies’ senior management (CEO, CTO, CFO, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Revenue Officer, VP Business Development, etc.) and understands the ownership structure and respective motivations. Engages in valuable discussions focused on growth, is curious and asks purposeful questions that contribute to positive actionable outcomesTakes a holistic and a long-term solutions approach in their engagements with medium-sized customers and prospects, and works in an Agile project management environment to deliver customized solutions tailored to support company needs and long-term goalsStrengthens and expands relationship network within portfolio of existing customers and prospects and within the ecosystem supporting high growth mid markets companiesAble to identify and articulate EDC solutions which can be offered during various inflection points of medium-sized companies’ growth journeyRepresents EDC at key industry events/conferences (speaking or panel engagement) Screening Criteria Undergraduate Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Finance, or relevant fieldMinimum 7-10 years of business development, including customer relationship management with a focus on Canadian technology, manufacturing or industrial mid-market companies, gained through relevant sales, business development or corporate development rolesA proven track record of developing strategic relationships and well-developed soft skills enabling building of contacts with senior business decision makersAdvanced knowledge of best practices in strategic relationship managementSolid knowledge of international business practices and international trade and investmentAn existing, established professional network of industry collaborators, corporate and financial relationships, and Canadian mid-market companies across Canadian Ontario.
