About Island Gold Mine: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold Mine is one of Canada’s highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. With over 550 team members, the underground operation is located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. This has supported a multi-phase expansion of the operation, driving production higher, costs lower, and strong free cash flow growth. Phase 3+ Expansion: The Phase 3+ Expansion of Island Gold to a production rate of 2,400 tpd from the current rate of approximately 1,200 tpd will involve various infrastructure investments. These include: 1. Development of a shaft and related facilities 2. Paste backfill plant 3. Mine water treatment facilities 4. Expansion of the process plant and tailings facility 5. Power supply upgrades Following the completion of the shaft in 2025, the operation will transition from trucking to skipping ore and waste to surface through the new shaft infrastructure, driving production higher and unit costs significantly lower. The successful candidate will have well-rounded experience with leading owner’s engineering teams, managing consultants, and technical expertise in mine shafts, shaft hoisting systems, and material handling. Experience in managing contractors, procurement, shaft sinking, surface and underground construction, and commissioning are also important criteria. Key Responsibilities: 1. Lead and oversee the work of the Alamos team of engineers for the shaft project. 2. Provide mentorship, guidance and clear goals and objectives for the Alamos engineering team. 3. Ensure that engineering work is completed and adequately reviewed by the relevant stakeholders in line with the project budget and schedule. 4. Work effectively with a peer cross shift in the role in order to ensure continuous progression of the work scope. 5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, project managers, contractors, and vendors, to develop project plans and execute project deliverables. 6. Ensure that the engineering design is aligned with the project budget and performance expectations. 7. Development of comprehensive, clear, specific scopes of work and other relevant procurement documents. 8. Work closely with contractors to ensure requests for information (RFIs) are quickly addressed and closed. 9. Work closely with the construction team and consultant engineering team to mitigate design and constructability issues. 10. Participation in the development of requests for proposals and contractor selection. 11. Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration within the engineering team, promoting best practices and continuous improvement initiatives. 12. Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to engineering projects, and integrate new knowledge into project planning and execution. Qualifications & Experience: 1. Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline relevant to the role description. 2. 15 years of progressive engineering, project management and construction experience in the mining industry. 3. The individual should have demonstrated leadership ability, a high level of energy, self-motivation, and strong organizational skills. 4. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment. 5. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with site and corporate personnel. 6. Computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, scheduling and spreadsheet applications. This position is based on remote working on a schedule of 4 days on and 3 days off with requirements to be at the Island Gold site on a requirement basis throughout the project.
