Job Description Position: Operator Primary Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia Shift: Monday to Friday – 40 hours – rotating shifts- overtime Reports To: Plant Manager Compensation: $53.56/hr + benefitsThe CAD hourly rate for this position is $53.56 + benefits. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Due to the hazardous nature of the chemicals being handled (corrosives and toxic inhalation hazards), this position requires an extremely safety conscientious individual.Qualification KnowledgeFourth Class Power Engineer Required. Preferred BCIT program.Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Work, & Excel).Strong math skills and basic understanding of chemistry.Experience working with plant equipment including pumps, electric motors, actuators, valves, instrumentation etc. preferred.Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) experience preferredForklift training and experience preferredFirst aid certification preferred.CompetenciesMust have initiative, the ability to work with minimum supervision, be highly motivated, energetic, and enjoy learning and working as part of a team.Positive attitude towards safety, wearing correct PPE, and following procedures.Strong mechanical aptitude. Basic understanding of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) preferred.ResponsibilitiesControl and monitor plant equipment for the purposes of manufacturing and transferring chemicals. Measure, mix and add chemicals to reactors. Observes pressures, temperatures, levels, and flows and make operational adjustments as necessary.Perform quality tests on chemical samples.Carry out Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) activities in compliance with regulations.Perform pre-loading and post-loading inspections and checks.Participate in industrial railway operations: load and unload rail cars, move rail cars on site.Prepare equipment for maintenance and reinstate after maintenance is complete.Participate in field level risk assessments and issue maintenance safe work permits.Participate in energy isolation lock-out tag-out (LOTO) activities.Carry out in-scope maintenance operations.Maintain a neat, clean, orderly work area. Participate in plant housekeeping activities.Ensure records are accurately maintained and that procedures are followed.Safely operate a forklift and wheel loader.Perform other duties as assigned.
