Job Description

Reporting to the Member of Parliament, the Constituency Assistant will primarily be responsible for providing administrative support services. The position is key in helping advance and facilitate the Member’s main objectives and priorities through outreach, events planning, and other strategic activities.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as the first line of response to constituents in person, and over the telephone.
  • Prioritizes, sorts, and evaluates correspondence and distributes it to the appropriate people.
  • Draft responses to constituent emails and letters.
  • Attend events, meetings, and gatherings in the riding with the Member.
  • Plan and coordinate meetings, travel arrangements, appointments, and conferences, and provide specific and relevant information to the Member on all relevant matters.
  • Work in collaboration with the constituency office team in all other related tasks to optimize the work of the MP.
Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have the following:

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institution in a related field or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working in an office setting providing reception or administrative support;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database management;
  • Experience dealing with various stakeholders, clients, and managers;
  • Exceptional judgment and interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise diplomacy when interacting with the public and stakeholders.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and a strong customer service attitude
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work under pressure, respond to short-term demands, and adapt to new situations.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the political environment and/or experience working in a political office setting.
  • Language assets: Cantonese or Mandarin

Job Title: Constituency Assistant

Location: Constituency Office, Richmond, British Columbia

Hours of Work: Full-time (37.5 hours), with occasional evening and weekend work. Some travel may be required.

Salary: $ 40 000 - 50 000,based on qualifications and work experience and competitive benefits package.

Start Date: As soon as possible
