Job DescriptionResponsible for designing/executing development and training programs for employees.Completing annual PA performance reviewsWorking with department administration to be accountable for the Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations, maintaining 100% on report cardWorking with department administration to be accountable for quality – monitor and maintain lab QC standards. Complete QC chart monitoringExecuting production work and reviewing dataAccountable for maintaining production, quality and financial targets.Accountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenanceActs as back up to the Chief/Senior Chemist in their absence.Any ad-hoc tasks as assigned by your supervisor.QualificationsSpecific technical skills:Previous experience using a variety of Geochemistry instrumentation, specifically AA, ICP or ICP-MS.Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in a minerals related laboratory.Previous experience using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel and Outlook).Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his/her Manager for resolution.Advanced level of creativity required in solving routine problems.Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.Ability to work well with others & independently.Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.Works well under pressure.Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.Travel to other SGS locations may be required from time to time.Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
