Plant Manager Roles & Responsibilities Reports To President *automotive stamping and welding experience is a must * Plant Manager Job Summary Responsible for developing and leading a high caliber manufacturing team consisting of Managers, Supervisors, Leads, Skilled trades and Production associates. The Plant Manager will oversee both divisions to ensure production schedules are met, costs are within budget, quality is maintained, morale is supported and associates are working in a safe manner. All duties must be performed in a safe and appropriate manner and follow all IATF 16949:2016 requirements. Plant Manager Job Duties Lead the budgeted targets within the operational plan Identify key issues/opportunities within both divisions across all departments, prioritize, action plan and follow through to completion Understand and manage profit and loss statement up to gross margin level. Develop and implement visual manufacturing workplace, including standardized work instructions, and visual aids. Motivate and educate the team on any necessary operational information that could enhance the company performance Provide coaching, mentoring and timely feedback to further enhance growth within the team Instill the continuous improvement philosophy and further its growth Ensures Managers & Supervisors maintain departmental training matrix for all associates and ensures associates are cross trained. Conduct Performance Appraisals for direct reports. Completes three month Performance evaluation for all new associates and forward to Human Resources Ensures that all associates receive effective on the job training and monitor its effectiveness. Ability to interact with customer in personable manner and add value to our customer base. Strong focus on plant housekeeping, 5S. Involvement in the accident/incident investigation program. Perform regular workplace inspections. Interface with local governmental authorizes (Ministry of Labour, Fire Department, Police MOE, WSPS, Power Stream, other contractors, Corporate and facilities, Employers Advocacy Council), develop and maintain a positive relationship. Plant Manager Responsibilities and Accountabilities The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following: Provide leadership for developing and directing plant initiatives for all company products. Manage long-term strategic plans and tactical implementation of production systems across the enterprise. Develop systems to evaluate, score, and implement manufacturing business system process improvements. Create and implement repeatable scoring metrics for all manufacturing and production operations. Operations and Production Determine optimum manufacturing processes and raw material usage. Identify areas for waste reduction and monitor progress. Implement optimal flow layouts to improve productivity. Improve production standards through time studies and other standard data development methods. Create and maintain production and warehouse documentation. Empower staff to adopt and incorporate quality methods into their work. Finance Meet annual budgets and operating plans in accordance with overall company budgets and operating plan preparation cycles. Provide cost analysis as required by senior management. Human Resources & Health and Safety Manage production, warehouse, maintenance employees, and other staff; recommend optimal staffing levels and schedules. Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Develop, coach, mentor and motivate subordinates. Identify relevant training needs and opportunities. Assist in training line workers in problem-solving techniques and on-the-spot production troubleshooting. Support and adhere to all company health and safety policies, programs and procedures by communicating and promoting health and safety awareness to all employees. Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety legislative requirements are being met. Conduct safety talk on the shop floor and in crew meetings. Participate in accident investigation program, operator start-up inspections and hazard identification programs. Monitor accident frequency, history and analysis of injury data to target areas for improvement. Perform regular workplace inspections, both scheduled and unscheduled. Develop and implement communication programs that foster team spirit and an atmosphere of participative management. Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation Other Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors and other key stakeholders of the company. Conduct oneself in a professional manner that reflects integrity and respect towards customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, supervisors and other key stakeholders of the company. Other responsibilities and accountabilities as assigned by the Divisional Manager. Plant Manager Job Requirements Strong / methodical problem-solving skills – proficient in the 8D method and 5P method. Proficiency in related computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project) University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline. 5+ years’ experience in the automotive industry. 5 – 10 years management experience. Strong tooling background (Tool and Die Qualification preferable, Die design). Experience, training in Toyota TPM, Honda Lean Manufacturing System and or Six Sigma. Demonstrated planning and system implementation ability. Knowledge of IATF 16949:2016 policies & procedures.
