DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Unit Clerk is responsible for: performing a wide variety of clerical duties including maintaining patient charts; transcribing doctor's orders; facilitating the admission/discharge/transfer process; acting as a receptionist; maintaining a variety of statistical information for the unit; answering the telephone and taking accurate messages; calling in staff in accordance with the applicable collective agreements; assisting in coordinating staffing; computer data entry and writing reports and performing other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:* Medical Office Administration Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience in a hospital clerical or medical office setting;* Previous experience transcribing doctor's orders;* Proven knowledge of medical terminology and good keyboarding skills (35 wpm) tested;* Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office; Word and Excel (tested);* Proven experience/knowledge of both CUPE and ONA scheduling language and associated premium entitlements;* Proven experience in computerized Meditech Personnel/Payroll, Admissions Modules, Order Entry and Community Wide Scheduling;* Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to demonstrate initiative;* Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize them;* Effective communication and interpersonal skills;* Physically capable of performing the work including reaching, bending, pulling;* Proven ability to work productively in a busy environment with many interruptions and distractions;* Must have a satisfactory performance record;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this areaCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) .
