About the Role

The Health, Safety & Environment Manager is a leader responsible for overseeing and developing robust Health & Safety Programs designed for AtomVie staff and the community as we gear up to launch our new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hamilton. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the HSE Manager will play a pivotal role in leading the safety culture for the organization, ensuring the full implementation of all safety programs, protocols, and training for the Company in accordance with applicable Regulations.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and inspire AtomVie’s safety culture and mindset throughout the organization.
  • Review, update and develop occupational health and safety policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of implemented policies & procedures, safety workplans and goals.
  • Review and update ongoing management, new hires and staff training to comply with legislated and radiation safety requirements.
  • Conduct investigations and report health and safety incidents and near misses, analyze root causes, ensure identifying and implement effective preventative and corrective actions.
  • Oversee the budget and annual plan to ensure availability of necessary resources for the effective implementation of the H&S plan.
  • Support the commissioning of the new facility, providing H&S related advice, supervision, and training to staff, contractors, and the delivery team.
  • Lead and coordinate the Joint Health and Safety Committee, scheduling and documenting meetings, making recommendations as needed.
  • Conduct risk assessments on a regular basis identifying hazards and mitigations plans and communicate with relevant departments and management.
  • Conduct environmental assessments to identify plans for control and improvement.
  • Plan and lead safety audits, participate in other internal and external audits, follow up with corrective action as needed.
  • Act as the main advisory between management and departments, raise and escalate H&S concerns to the executive management
  • Act as the liaison officer between AtomVie and McMaster’s Health Physics group; coordinate activities, share and discuss reports, and align on action plans.
  • Actively communicate, engage, and encourage staff to participate and promote positive culture surrounding the health and safety at AtomVie.
  • Complete all other duties, as required.

What You Bring to the Role

  • You are motivated to develop and execute an industry leading safety program that will have a positive impact within our organization, people and community.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in radiation safety regulations and the transportation of dangerous goods regulations is a plus.
  • Experience in manufacturing facility construction and commissioning for a GMP/pharma operation is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in Radiopharma would be an asset.
  • Ability to cultivate strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in managing employees, building a safety culture, investigating issues, and writing reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully prioritize, manage time well, and multitask
  • Flexibility to support a 24/7 production environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent in Engineering, Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of recent working experience in health and safety or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven record in creating and developing a Safety Culture.
  • 2 years experience of project management, budgeting, or team management.
  • Knowledge of applicable H&S legislation and regulatory bodies requirements to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
