Position Summary Patrol the County Road network on weekends documenting maintenance needs and dispatching County resources (manpower, equipment, and material) to combat winter storm activity. Job Duties and Responsibilities Duties: •To patrol the County Road network on the weekends to ensure that the road network meets the Minimum Maintenance Standards as accepted by County Council and set out in Regulation 55 as established through the Municipal Act •Direct County resources (manpower, equipment, material) in the performance of their duties to combat winter storm activity in accordance with the County’s established Salt Management Plan and Storm Response Guidelines •Call out County forces as dictated by weather conditions and notify local municipalities of road conditions as required •Receive complaints from the public and police. Respond to complaints and requests, suggesting corrective action if warranted and if not, explain the County’s position and relevant policy •Log and report particulars with respect to road conditions and accidents on County Roads •Perform work in accordance with the County’s Health & Safety policy and program and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations ensuring that appropriate safety and risk management practices are followed •Suggest operational changes to improve winter control operations •As required in a backup capacity, operate County equipment to complete winter operations. Safely operate “All Inclusive Snow Plough Equipment”, tractor backhoe, front-end loader, etc. •Have a working knowledge of municipal winter control methods and procedures and legal requirements related to winter operations General: •Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed •Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis These describe the general nature and level of work being performed by incumbents in this classification. Supervision Requirements Direct Supervision: None Indirect Supervision: None Functional Authority: Equipment Operators, Operators, Skilled Labourers and Winter Control Operators Credentials Required Minimum Formal Education •Secondary school graduation diploma or the equivalent in experience with the completion of the AORS municipal road maintenance course •Current valid Province of Ontario Drivers License, minimum class DZ Experience •A minimum of three years of public works experience relevant to the scope of service associated with the position A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
