Position Summary The Recreation and Leisure Supervisor position is responsible for developing, monitoring, and evaluating all Recreation/Leisure services at the three Long-Term Care Homes according to the policies and procedures of the County of Lambton, the Long-Term Care Division and in compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and its Regulations. Job Duties and Responsibilities Departmental Management: •Provide opportunities for Residents to participate in enjoyable activities where they can develop new or maintain current social, recreational, educational, leisure interests and pastimes according to policies and procedures of the County of Lambton, the Long-Term Care Division, and the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 •Prepare and develop annual departmental goals and objectives; develop departmental policies and procedures •Prepare program planning, education calendar and orientation training for staff •Monitor all internal and external department activities, including recreation, , Occupational therapy assessments, , mobility equipment, delivery and maintenance, and spiritual services •Ensure staff assess and assist Elders in the development of obtainable recreation goals, develop interventions and action plans, maintaining appropriate records and completing proper documentation in the Care Plan •Schedule and chair monthly departmental meetings, record meeting minutes and prepare agendas and materials. •Ensure Input of monthly calendars, participate in family meetings, develop and maintain Program Descriptions, review and record departmental audits and program cancellations •Complete monthly Health and Safety inspection and month end reports •Ensure compliance with all regulations under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, County of Lambton and Long-Term Care Division policies and procedures •Attend educational in-services, training, seminars, courses, conventions and workshops relevant to recreation and leisure •Liaise with the Ministry of Health as well as professionals in other Long-Term Care Homes •Interact with Elders, families, and volunteers to address concerns regarding Elder care, programs, mobility equipment, outings, gardens, etc.; support and encourage Elder and family input through participation in Residents' Council, Family Council and other supportive groups as requested •Work in a team concept with staff in all departments of the home in order to ensure the needs of the Elders are met Human Resources Management: •Participate in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training and discipline of staff in conjunction with Administrator •Handle staff complaints, grievances and other labour disputes as they arise •Undertake annual performance appraisal reviews of assigned staff Budget/Finance: •Recommend the operating budget for the department to the Administrator •Monitor the department budget and report to the Administrator on a regular basis •Assist in the monthly variance analysis and suggest corrective action to be taken to achieve budget targets General: •Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed •Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis These describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the incumbents in this classification. Supervision Requirements Direct Supervision: All Recreation and Leisure and Life Enrichment Staff Indirect Supervision: Not applicable Functional Authority: Not applicable Credentials Required Minimum Formal Education •Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution, or a postsecondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that is considered equivalent. Experience •Experience in a health care setting or other relevant setting •Knowledge of programs and techniques in recreation, community resources and program development •Demonstrated communication, leadership and organizational skills A valid Ontario Class "F" Driver’s Licence and use of a vehicle.
