Job Description : The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated, self driven tax professional to be a part of the Tax group at CPP Investments. This is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of the evolution of the tax function at CPP Investments and to be part of Tax, Finance and organization-wide projects, including those focused on improving the efficiency of tax workflows. Reporting to the Managing Director, Tax, you will help build internal scalability and provide strong, sustainable support to the existing team. With increased focus on digitalization of tax functions and workflows, you will play a key role in all initiatives aimed towards this goal. In your role, you will also assist in ensuring that the enterprise tax risks, and compliance obligations are managed appropriately. You will play a key role in acting as a liaison between Tax and its business partners within CPP Investments.

Specifically, you will :

  • Proactively initiate, design, lead and execute projects to build scalability within the global Tax function
  • Work closely with different internal stakeholders and partners across all levels to manage and implement various Tax, Finance and Enterprise-wide projects
  • Review tax provisions, including deferred tax calculations, prepared by our advisors in various countries and work closely with the finance group to ensure timely, correct, and consistent reporting
  • Support the global tax compliance function, including Canadian and International tax controversy management
  • Lead the quarterly and annual tax metrics and reporting process
  • Use advanced data and analytical tools available to standardize processes. Keep abreast of changes in technology that will provide an opportunity to continuously improve and upgrade Tax processes
  • Act as a liaison between the Tax group and other internal stakeholders and business partners
  • Manage advisors to ensure that projects are completed within acceptable risk tolerances, on a timely basis, and within the approved budget

Qualifications :

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and/or Master of Taxation
  • Based in Toronto or willing to relocate
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with tax accounting
  • General tax experience is an asset but not required
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Exceptional execution skills and the ability to remove roadblocks and to escalate where required
  • The ability to make recommendations that drive resolution in ambiguous situations
  • Clear, concise, and articulate written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and an understanding of emerging workplace communication and collaboration tools and technology
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience working in multiple jurisdictions would be an asset
