Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Design or assist in the design of all types of mechanical systems and equipment selection for use in various types of food or beverage plants including HVAC (offices/production areas, heat loss/gain, duct design, grease hood systems, HVAC controls), underground plumbing (storm, sanitary, process sanitary, grease interceptors) and plumbing systems involving domestic hot/cold water, compressed air, hydronic heating and cooling/glycol systems, high pressure wash system, water treatment systems (softening, reverse osmosis), natural gas facility distribution. Process hot water and steam boilers equipment selection, including steam/condensate piping design and steam specialty component selection. Understanding of Ammonia and Halocarbon refrigeration systems.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Building Code for Plumbing and HVAC, Ontario Fire Code, CFIA, ASHRAE STD as applied to HVAC and Refrigeration, NFPA, OSHA,TSSA, CSA Standard for fuel related appliances and equipment.
  • Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services.
  • Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
  • Act as assistant project manager on mechanical engineering projects.
  • Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
  • Evaluate with the senior engineer various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor budget requirements as outlined by the senior engineer for mechanical systems and submit budgetary recommendations for discussion.
  • Work closely with architectural, electrical, civil, refrigeration, fire suppression and structural disciplines to ensure building projects are completed to client’s satisfaction.
  • Work closely with project technologists to develop plans to client’s satisfaction.
  • Produce and conduct presentations under direction of senior engineers.
  • Evaluate process equipment for use by clients and make recommendations.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
  • Review and update Mechanical Specifications
  • Manage multiple projects at once often with conflicting deadlines/timeframes.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Working towards P.Eng. and member of PEO.
  • Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to identify key financial performance indicators and their relationship with project indicators.
  • Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment.
  • Ability to grow as a Project Manager.
  • Strong communication skills with a strong ability to work with others and mange client relations and expectations.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Education/Experience

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Work term experience in a consulting environment.
  • Hydronic experience is an asset.
