Job Purpose : To manage production resources, particularly equipment and staff so that quality parts are produced in the required volume, safely, consistently and on time.

Job Duties and Responsibilities : Main Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring production, safety, quality and on-time delivery targets are met or exceeded daily. accordingly to volume, quality and delivery bogeys; immediately meeting Identifying and resolvingoperational challenges while optimizing the use of human, material and mechanical resources in fulfilling daily production goals;
  • Developing short and long term labour plans to meet customer requirements and the annual business plan. Identifying training gaps and developing training plans to ensure a skilled hourly workforce that enhances the flexibility of our labour force.
  • Identifying, promoting and sustaining Continuous Improvement efforts at the plant, to drive excellence in the manufacturing discipline and move the plant to the level of a world-class manufacturing facility; regularly teaming with engineering, quality, and materials management teams for continuous improvements optimizing production performance;
  • Leading the production department in the annual business planning process; setting production department performance improvement targets with the Plant Manager, partnering with Plant Leadership team members, and supervising subordinates to ensure professional execution of improvement plans and realizing superior results;
  • Supervising, mentoring and coaching production supervisors working in a unionized plant, ensuring that production-employee performance, communications within and across shifts, staff involvement, and health & safety priorities are met or exceeded each day;
  • Supporting and sustaining maintenance improvements in quality, safety and up-time;
  • Leading positive production and value-stream operating changes, so that the plant can optimize workplace safety, operational efficiency, productivity and/or cost.

Qualifications : Post-secondary education in engineering, engineering technology, business administration or a related discipline. Progressively responsible manufacturing and supervisory experience in the auto parts industry in a unionized setting. Knowledge of Product System principles and processes including Kaizen, Hoshin Planning, visual controls, kan ban, set-up reduction, process mapping and MBF tools. Track record demonstrating success in teamwork, change management and continuous improvement - planning, establishing performance metrics and success in new-process implementation. Superior communications skills with the abilities to teach, motivate and develop people within this position’s scope. Strong analytical and personal computer skills. Health & Safety certification is an asset.
