Personal Lines Underwriter

We are looking for an underwriter with five plus years of experience for Personal Lines Property and Casualty department.

Key Skills, Attributes & Experience Required : Underwriting

  • Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel contracts in accordance with company underwriting policies, procedures, service standards, applicable laws and regulations based on assigned authority levels.
  • Request inspections in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Must be a strong communicator, able to communicate succinctly and effectively both verbally and in policy related correspondence and maintain supporting documentation as required.
  • Provide underwriting training/coaching to new hires or new team members.
  • Assist in the development and mentorship of colleagues.
  • Participate in post-loss underwriting reviews and review on claim files referred in accordance with the company’s risk appetite and service standards.

Customer Service

  • Understand and communicate underwriting business rules and guidelines to brokers.
  • Answer enquiries and respond to brokers through verbal and written correspondence.
  • Guide and direct brokers on the use of our policy and billing information technology system.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers to develop/maintain a stable and profitable book of business.
  • Provide training to brokers as required on underwriting matters.
  • Provide service to brokers in accordance with company service standards.

Other

  • Serves as an ambassador for the company when attending industry functions or company events.
  • Assist colleagues with special projects as assigned.
  • Other activities as requested by managers or supervisors.

The Property & Casualty Underwriter must have a demonstrated ability to identify problems, their root causes and to address them meaningfully before the problem has a visible negative impact. The individual must see and approach problems as opportunities for growth and development for the organization and its employees.

The Property & Casualty Underwriter must have a strong sense of current and future industry direction and policyholder needs.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years experience with personal lines underwriting or related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment is required.
  • Adaptable mind-set is required.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members.
  • A continuous improvement mindset is preferred.

Education

  • A CIP designation or actively pursuing a CIP designation (or equivalency).
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or post-secondary certificate is required (or an equivalent of industry experience)

Salary : $42,000.00-$69,000.00 per year
