Work Term: Permanent Work Language: English Hours: 30 hours per week Education: No degree, certificate or diploma Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years Work site environment At heights Cold/refrigerated Dusty Noisy Work setting Various locations Tasks Prepare tenders and quotations Instruct apprentices Supervise other workers Apply successive coats of compound and sand seams and joints Apply, level and smooth coats of plaster Clean and prepare surfaces Cure freshly plastered surfaces Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners Fabricate and install suspended metal ceiling grids and place in panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks with joint compound using trowel and broad knife Finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in finish coat, if required Measure, cut, fit and install drywall sheets Mix plaster ingredients to desired consistency Position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists Smooth out excess compound and allow coat to dry Tape over joints using taping machine and embed tape in compound Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages Erect and install scaffolding, falsework and other working platforms Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications Supervision 1 to 2 people Transportation/travel information Own vehicle Work conditions and physical capabilities Bending, crouching, kneeling Hand-eye co-ordination Handling heavy loads Large workload Repetitive tasks Standing for extended periods Weight handling More than 45 kg (100 lbs) Own tools/equipment Hard hat Safety glasses/goggles Steel-toed safety boots Personal suitability Client focus Dependability Flexibility Judgement Reliability Team player Support for newcomers and refugees Supports social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees (for example: facilitating access to community resources, language training, skills training, etc.) Support for youths Offers mentorship, coaching and/or networking opportunities for youth Support for Indigenous people Offers mentorship, coaching and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers
