The Opportunity

We are currently looking to hire a Stabilization Aide for our Treatment Centre in Grouard, Alberta . This opportunity will be a full-time permanent position. The schedule will be 7-On 7-Off and 12-hour shifts. You’ll get to work with a growing organization where you will gain valuable experience in the field of Mental Health and Addictions.

As Stabilization Aide, you will be responsible for collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team in the recovery and rehabilitation of clients in overcoming various challenges they face, through promoting positive life skills and supporting the reduction of the negative impact of alcohol and drug abuse.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing positive rapport and communicating effectively with all clients and staff.
  • Ensuring client safety by working with staff to ensure clients are monitored appropriately and aware of any risks. Will also ensure clients follow house rules at all times (conducts bed checks on hourly intervals).
  • Acting as an advocate for each of our clients to ensure their needs are met; being aware of and up to date on client issues, needed supports and their precautions.
  • Dispensing medication under the supervision of directed staff or supervisors.
  • Ensuring group activities are prepared daily for all shifts (morning, afternoon, and evening).
  • Responsible for ensuring clients are diligently taking appropriate medication.
  • Providing a weekly plan for arts and crafts or any applicable recreational activities.
  • Responsible for monitoring cameras of the facility and reporting any changes to the Operations Manager. Ensures door alarms and security equipment is in good working order on a daily basis.
  • Will ensure there are no unauthorized persons on the property between midnight and 6:00am.
  • Maintain a detailed log of any and all incidents that may occur with staff and client care.
  • Monitor and screen all visitors and clients to grant access into the facility.
  • Assist the Stabilization team or Treatment staff in monitoring all personnel engaged in recreation and weekend activities including volunteer work.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports as per the Stabilization Coordinator.
  • Performing regularly scheduled cleaning duties and supports maintenance of the Centre by ensuring offices are tidy, desks are clean, garbage’s are emptied, and all sidewalks and stairs are cleared.
  • Sweep and Mop Front Entrance, Hallway, Stairs, Main Office, Dining Room and Front Sitting Area.

Who You Are

As a Stabilization Aide, you are passionate about helping others. Some important skills include:

  • Provides accurate and timely information, facilitates dialog through open-ended questions and actively listens.
  • Uses a calm demeanor and maintains composure when faced with aggressiveness.
  • Does not show frustration when resisted or blocked, tries to understand people and data before making judgements and acting.
  • Provides accurate information reporting, communicates concisely when providing status updates.
  • Able to build relationships with peers, clients, and leaders.

You possess the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma is required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a group home or similar experience in mental health background.
  • Working towards a diploma or certificate in community addictions or mental health is an asset.
  • Associate Addiction Counsellor (AAC) designation is considered an asset.
  • First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C.
  • Willing to work towards Certified Addictions Counsellor (CCAC) from a recognized institution and governing body is an asset.
  • General knowledge of evidence-based practices, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
