Coltene SciCan is a market leader in the manufacture and distribution of dental and medical equipment. SciCan’s manufactured sterilization and disinfection equipment is sold in over 80 countries, worldwide.

We are looking for a Embedded Software Development Lead to join our team. This position is responsible to Lead product development projects and supervise teams of software engineers and technologists working on new product development or in support of current products.

Coach and mentor team members under their responsibility and leadership, in terms of performance and professional development. Advise the Director of Software/Electronics Engineering on technology developments and trends in the field of software and contribute to the product development and technology roadmaps. Manage New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering projects as assigned. Manage our product development processes to enable us to be as rapid, agile, and adaptable as possible all the while satisfying the regulatory requirements.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Lead, Embedded Software Development is responsible for:

  • Once assigned, get involved early in the life of a project and help define it
  • Development of Design Input requirements for new product designs
  • Define and communicate the resources and skills required to successfully execute the project
  • Plan the project in collaboration with team members and then execute it to deliver on our

commitments

  • Assign and outline work to group members
  • Process Engineering Change Requests, Engineering Test Requests, Research and

Development Requests and Engineering Change Orders according to established

procedures.

  • Advise on technical problems and mediate technical disputes
  • Review work for technical adequacy and accuracy
  • Identify, communicate, and take ownership, if appropriate, of issues and/or opportunities at the departmental level whether related to people, process, or product.
  • Make recommendations to management concerning the selection, training, rating, and

discipline of team members

  • Create and maintain Technical File software documentation.
  • Track and communicate progress of projects using tools/channels as appropriate
  • Make independent decisions on work methods and procedures within the boundaries of our quality system
  • Promote and perform an ongoing review and challenge to our quality system to develop and establish a culture of “thinking” – not merely “doing” – and continuous improvement
  • Ensure that best practices and areas for improvement are clearly identified, communicated, and put in practice/corrected at the team level, once again with an eye towards continuous improvement
  • Follow Software Development Lifecycle in new and current products:
  • Define and gather software requirements, disseminate to the team
  • Design, develop and maintain software
  • Maintain and disseminate product knowledge in the team to minimize risk
  • Architect application design and inter-communication of components of software systems
  • Design and implement APIs in software systems to facilitate communication with cloud services
  • Identify tools to better support the development process
  • Design for compliance for Medical Device related standards
  • Participation in design reviews for new parts and products when required.
  • Produce reports to communicate design goals, achievements, or significant results to persons within or external to Coltene- SciCan R&D.
  • Lead by example, seek to understand the unique motivators of others (e.g. team members), and appropriately recognize and reward contributions; demonstrate commitment to achieving success; and remain positive and constructive about people and the work at hand
  • Ensure that the appropriate safety apparel will be utilized when working within the Production, Warehousing, Service, Lab and Machine Shop areas.

These to include, but not limited to:

  • Safety Shoes
  • Eye / Face Protection
  • Gloves
  • Supports lab housekeeping and equipment safety practices
  • Manage, directly or through delegation, technology development as applicable to Scican

Sterilizers, Washer / Disinfectors and IOT G4/G4+ technology

  • Other duties as assigned

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Masters or Bachelor’s degree with STEM focus (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math), with at least 5 years relevant experience in product development with embedded systems
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with Medical Devices design and development
  • Project management Professional (PMP in good standing), desired
  • Demonstrated expertise in the following:
  • Medical Device Construction: (Steam Sterilizers, Washer Disinfectors).
  • Medical Device Function: (Steam Sterilizers, Washer Disinfectors).
  • Medical Device Manufacture: (Steam Sterilizers, Washer Disinfectors).
  • Medical Device field use: (Steam Sterilizers, Washer Disinfectors).
  • Application of the Risk Management Process
