Recreational Afterschool Program Coordinator

Manor Park Community Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as Coordinator of our After 3 Recreational Program. As Coordinator, you will play a key role in providing a nurturing and safe environment for all children. You will be responsible for managing a team of 1-2 Educators, developing and implementing programming, and ensuring that our program meets and exceeds standards.

Responsibilities :

  • The role of the Coordinator is to manage the day-to-day operations of the program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:_
  • Create staff schedules, cover staff absences by reaching out to temp agencies, and participate in hiring and staff performance reviews.
  • Supervise and mentor staff, offer guidance and support.
  • Identify programming opportunities, plan and implement programming, post program plans, and recommend program specialists to Supervisor.
  • Ensure programming supports the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the program.
  • Support the ongoing professional development of staff and encourage a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that all administrative tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Lead staff meetings and orientation.
  • Ensure children arrive at the program from the school/bus safely.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
  • Act as a positive role model for children, demonstrating kindness, patience, and respect in all interactions.
  • Prepare registration packages, ensure attendances are up to date, review online registrations, post medical concerns, create and maintain staff/parent contact lists.
  • Monitor and reconcile monthly payments, prepare and distribute child care receipts, prepare injury reports, conduct monthly fire drills, update parent handbook, as necessary.
  • Purchase supplies and stay within monthly budget.
  • Maintain community center bulletin boards and signs, report building deficiencies to the City of Ottawa.
  • Follow policies and procedures.

Requirements :

  • Supervising team members: 1 year

  • Working with children: 3 years

  • Must have one of the following:

  • Diploma in Recreation

  • Early Childhood Education

  • Child and Youth Diploma

  • Up to date First Aid and CPR level C certification.

  • Clear vulnerable sector check.

  • Ability to speak and write in English, French an asset.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with parents and staff.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lead a team and remain calm, patient, and organized in a fast-paced environment.

  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certificate (an asset)

  • A commitment to providing high-quality care to children in grades 1-4.

This position takes place in person at 100 Thornwood Road, inside Manor Park Community Center, Monday-Friday between the hours of 1:00pm-6:00pm from August 19, 2024-June 27, 2025. The After 3 Coordinator becomes the Summer Camp Coordinator in the months of July and August and works 37.5 hrs/week.

The After 3 Coordinator position has potential to become a full time position as the program grows.

Job Types : Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 per week
