Description :This seminar course is a hybrid of law and public policy that uses active learning techniques. From a public policy perspective it examines the economic, political, social, and organizational theories of regulation, a key legal/policy instrument of government. From a legal perspective, this course examines the legal parameters that constrain regulation-making and expose regulations to legal challenge. The aim of this course is to provide students with a solid foundation in the law and policy of regulation to work at a regulator, law firm or in a regulated industry as legal counsel, lobbyist or in another leadership role. This course makes use of group exercises to encourage active learning. An LL.B., J.D., or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario, or equivalent, in good standing is also required. The successful candidate will have significant practical experience in the area of regulatory law. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset. The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements, where the candidate’s selection would be beneficial to the program, the course, the students or for a related reason. An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
