Casual Child and Youth Care Worker

Terms of Employment : Casual position(s)

Shifts : Shift Work - 8 and/or 12 hour shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends)

Location: Amherst, NS

Nature of Position : Youth Care Workers are responsible for administering approved treatment plans and providing care to residents (ages 9 and older) in care of the Minister of Community Services. Responsible for accurate reporting, file maintenance, crisis intervention and assisting with developing programs and activities. The facility is a 24/7 awake operation.

Required Education : Bachelor's Degree in the Human Services Field ~or~ Child Care Worker Diploma from a provincial accredited institution.

Assets : Certificates in the following programs are considered an asset

  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention (NVPCI), Standard First Aid Level C, Cultural Awareness Training, Medication Awareness Training, Medication Administration, Fire Safety Training, WHIMIS, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Inhalant Abuse, Stress Management, Restorative Practices, Food Handlers Safety Training.

Additional Skills : Housekeeping activities, food preparation, supervise indoor and outdoor activities of children and youth, supervise children';s visits with parents to ensure their safety.

Security and Safety Requirements : Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, Valid Driver's License, appropriate Liability Insurance.

Transportation Information : Must have access to a reliable and appropriate vehicle to transport residents.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities :Fast paced environment, work under pressure, physically demanding.
