The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, transportation/courier and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Manager for our Nova Scotia Flatworks operations. This position is based in Bedford, NS. Job Summary:Reporting to the Senior Director of Safety, the Health and Safety Manager is responsible to lead staff, systems and programs to ensure the implementation, and ongoing maintenance and effectiveness of OH&S legislative compliance and the Health and Safety Management System. This position has general accountability for providing risk management expertise, leadership and guidance to Health and Safety Advisors and operations leadership to prevent loss, eliminate injuries and promote and develop a positive safety culture.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Lead, develop and direct a team of Health and Safety Advisors to ensure the ongoing delivery of professional, timely and effective service to our stakeholders.Ensure the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) is fully implemented, maintained and continuously improved within assigned business units.Provides subject matter expertise and guidance, coaching, and mentoring to various stakeholders.Conducts ongoing monitoring within assigned business units to ensure conformance with corporate standards and compliance to regulatory requirements.Tracks and analyzes performance trends, implements corrective action plans and reports on the effectiveness of health and safety programs and initiatives.Oversee and/or lead incident investigations ensuring that emergencies and injuries are handled in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements.Ensure continuing operational alignment with strategic plan and communicate and collaborate with other H&S Managers for continual improvement of the HSMS.Support and participate in claims management for worker’s compensation injuries.Maintain knowledge and monitor changes in applicable legislation, standards and best practices, and provide recommendations to address. Other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:Certificate or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalentCRSP or equivalent designation, or willingness to obtain within a prescribed timeline.10+ years of experience in a related industry with direct experience in Health and Safety5+ years of experience in a Supervisory/Management roleDemonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the interpretation and application of applicable safety legislation, industry standards and best practices.Ability to travel throughout the province to various construction projects, facilities, and worksites.Tactful and mature demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities within all stakeholder groups.Ability to manage multiple complex priorities and align resources effectively.A comprehensive compensation package is offered with this position along with opportunities for advancement and training and development.
