A typical day:Provide technical support to Lab Technicians to ensure that testing and other day-to-day lab tasks are performed correctly and in a safe and timely manner, and that lab areas are clean and organized. Ensure that lab equipment is operational, calibrated and maintained. Carry out equipment calibration and assist Lab Technicians with calibrations as required. Facilitate communication to Lab Technicians and Shift Operating Technicians through the use of the Lab DCN and Lab Shift logs. Ensure that LIMS and other lab software/firmware, including Open Lab are maintained. Support organization and set up of required third-party maintenance and calibrations of equipment. Write, review and revise standard operating procedures, and ensure they are controlled in a document control system, Complete grading of finished product. Ensure that lab documentation, including manufacturing standards and records are maintained and kept according to records retention procedure, Respond and organize requests for non-routine samples Organize training and/or train Lab Technicians and Shift Operating Technicians as required, on new methods, equipment, and calibration techniques. Review, approve and audit lab data and analytical results as required, including for regulatory reporting. Ensure laboratory inventory is maintained by timely ordering and/or purchasing laboratory, chemical and instrument supplies. Provide Central HSEQ Group with updated SDS as required. Successful candidates will have:Minimum BSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science or in a related scientific field (e.g. Chemical Engineering). Laboratory College Diploma may be considered with relevant work experience. Preferably 5-10 years of experience in a laboratory environment. Analytical and/or rubber chemistry experience is highly preferred (HPLC, FT-NIR, XRF, Mooney, MDR, GC, GC-MS, GPC) Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills Results-focused, highly detail oriented, able to work under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines and be able to multi-task by setting clear priorities. Must have proficient computer skills and must be familiar with Microsoft Office, other software such as Lotus Notes, SAP, Sample Manager and OSI:PI are assets.Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001 & MISA requirements is an asset.Oversee completion of MSA and MDL’s for ISO9001 compliance and other regulatory compliance (Compliance to MOECP ECA’s) Support and assist with preparation and implementation of internal and external audits, including but not limited to customer questionnaires and visits, ISO, IMS, etc., as required.
