JOB PURPOSE : This role reports to the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager. The FSQA Supervisor is responsible for maintaining and managing Conestoga Meats' FSQA, BRC, and HACCP programs to ensure they meet or exceed the standards. The FSQA Supervisor will focus on maintaining FSQA presence on the production floor to carry out observations, inspections, reviews, analyze any discrepancies, and support rectifying any issues. This role will also look after facilitating on-going training as required, supervising and directing salary and hourly FSQA employees, supporting the compliance of our BRC program/audits, serving as a customer liaison, and investigating and addressing any customer (internal and external) complaints.

Please note this is a PM shift, 2:00pm-10:30pm

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS / ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES : Monitoring and verification

  • Supervise and direct quality assurance technicians/auditors who are responsible for enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices and other quality-related policies in order to meet product quality standards
  • Ensure effective execution of certain FSQA programs to meet corporate and customer food safety strategy and quality standards as well as all regulatory requirements (CFIA, Health Canada, USDA, FDA, etc.)
  • Recommend and implement process improvements within the facility and the department
  • Follow up with implemented programs (GMPs, Good Hygiene Practices, HACCP, Cleaning and Sanitation, Pest Control, Equipment Calibration, etc.) to ensure compliance by all employees and other personnel in the manufacturing facility
  • Assist in the coordination of testing results involving finished products, raw materials, and packaging components and the appropriate release and hold programs associated with these materials
  • Oversee the "On Hold" product program, including the status, release, and destruction of "Rejected" products
  • Assist in investigating and correcting quality-related issues (including customer complaints) through collaboration with other departments
  • Make proactive recommendations and offering/presenting solutions to leadership to improve quality and work efficiency
  • Share knowledge, skills, and information with other personnel in leadership and across functional areas
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, operating procedures, quality systems and programs which ensure proper testing, evaluation, inspection, and technical support to meet product quality standards
  • Participate in all regulatory, third party and customer audits and inspections, and corrective action response
  • Ensure good performance by quality assurance technicians/auditors by mentoring, training, setting expectations, providing accountability, and performing evaluations
  • Maintain a fair and professional work environment that focuses on the business objectives, but also balances quality of work-life factors for employees
  • Continuously lead the digitization of CMP programs through safety chain

Direct Reports

  • Supervise and direct salary and hourly FSQA employees
  • Maintain up-to-date job descriptions for each direct report
  • Lead, coach and develop the FSQA team

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Food Science, Microbiology or similar disciplines
  • HACCP Certified
  • Internal auditor training
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in food manufacturing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • At least 1 year of Supervisory experience
