Health and Safety Supervisor

About what we are seeking: We are seeking someone with 3-5 years experience in Health and Safety, within Manufacturing (Food, Pharma, Automotive, warehouse distribution, etc.) that is looking to become a Health and Safety Supervisor. The ideal candidate will have experience with WSIB claims, WSIB re-imbursements, back to work protocols, and a proven track record with documentation of equipment, inspection, and training sessions. This person will be responsible for overseeing several Health and Safety Coordinator and two plant facilities in the North York Area. Hours of operations will be Monday to Friday days, with the occasional afternoon, weekends and travel to each facilities as required.

Responsibilities:

  • with management to establish and communicate safety goals and objectives.
  • focus and participate in all meetings and follow-up with all inquiries in a timely manner.
  • in collaboration with all stakeholders for health and safety initiatives.
  • the Accident and Incident Report Database and follow-up with all corrective actions.
  • and send all monthly and quarterly reports to management.
  • regular updates to the H&S Manager on the status of corrective actions and inspection findings.
  • accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
  • and update safety policies and procedures.
  • safety-related meetings including agenda preparation and minutes taking.
  • and account for inventory and report to the H&S Manager when supplies must be ordered.
  • in inspections and assist in addressing any findings or deficiencies.
  • all WSIB claims from start to finish.
  • frequent training, coaching and mentorship to all Health and Safety Training Coordinators and meet with each of them on at least a bi-weekly basis.
  • and facilitate health and safety trainings to all staff.
  • update training material when there are legislated changes and/or changes to internal policies and procedures.
  • all employee trainings and ensure that they are completed prior to expiration.
  • awareness and participation in health and safety programs through effective communication and activities.
  • the Safe Supervisor Talk speaking points every 6 weeks.
  • a workplace inspection each week at a different plant and engage stakeholders.
  • open communication channels for employees to report safety concerns or suggestions for improvement.
  • regularly with employees about safety-related updates, reminders, and successes.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology, a related field or a combination of education and work experience.
  • No more than 4-7 years experience in Health and Safety,
  • 2 years of experience managing WSIB claims is considered an asset.
  • 1-2 years of experience leading a team and providing training, coaching or mentorship is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in food manufacturing is considered an asset.

Salary: 60-75,000 annually
