NWR is currently looking to fill two vacancies for Maintenance Area Lead

Position Summary : Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Maintenance Area Lead works with the respective Operations Superintendent to ensure reliable operation of the Refinery and continued safe production. This role aligns with NWR’s Operations, Maintenance, Technical (OMT) Structure and directly supports the relevant Operating Business Unit.

This position is responsible for the safe execution and stewardship of maintenance activities in the respective area. The role will ensure maintenance quality systems are in place and KPIs are being managed to enable the Maintenance group to fully execute and meet business unit goals. The Maintenance Area Lead identifies efficient work execution practices, drives solutions by supporting initiatives and holding people to account to manage plant reliability risks. The Maintenance Area Lead has a single point of accountability for the maintenance activities in their respective area.

Responsibilities :

  • Supports the maintenance execution team members including the Area Maintenance Coordinators;
  • Conducts audits to ensure accuracy and relevancy of maintenance procedures & practices in their area;
  • Ensures that maintenance cost control/reporting systems are fully functional to meet approved budgets;
  • Coordinates and optimizes the infrastructure requirements supporting the contract resourcing strategy;
  • Accountable for ensuring critical parts and spares in their respective areas are ordered, tracked and reported to the OMT;
  • Supports the maintenance KPI reporting structure for quality, cost, productivity, and schedule to support maintenance objectives and targets;
  • Conducts formal validation reviews, mentors technicians in their training and progression plans, building depth and clear developmental plans;
  • Sets technician Performance and Development goals in alignment with organizational and Department Goals;
  • Confronts performance and behavioral concerns and provides coaching and direct feedback on the performance of personnel;
  • Provides maintenance leadership to resolve plant emergencies;
  • Supports the EOC and on call rotation to support plant emergencies;
  • Accountable for contractor execution performance and communication with contractor supervision for contracts assigned to them including feedback for others;
  • Leads safety and improvement initiatives;
  • Develops and reports improvement opportunities to the Maintenance Superintendent;
  • Ensures that incidents in area of accountability have appropriate level and quality of investigation conducted, action items are completed, and lessons learned effectively communicated;
  • Initiates and oversees the selection and recruitment of maintenance staff personnel in accordance with NWR’s Recruitment Policy and Procedures;
  • Reviews and analyzes workforce productivity and cost reports, forecast and progress reports, and recommends changes that will improve the performance. This includes all key result areas such as safety, budget, schedule and quality;
  • Ensures all relevant quality documentation is prepared and completed in accordance with NWR procedures;
  • Prepares supporting information as required for Management in relation to disputes and participates in the dispute resolution process;
  • Maintains a pro-active approach by implementing and promoting HSE awareness at all times;
  • Ensures employees report hazards, unsafe work practices, dangerous occurrences and all injuries, no matter how insignificant they may seem;
  • Liaises with employee Health and Safety Representatives so that prompt responses are given when safety issues are raised;
  • Establishes a strong relationship with all other NWR personnel including Maintenance and Turnaround Management Team, Operations, Stores and Warehouse personnel, contractors and others as relevant;
  • Assist with quality system audits and compliance;
  • Project work as required and as directed.

Requirements :

  • Understands, creates, and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to NWR’s Core Competencies to drive results and culture;
  • Minimum 5 years Supervision experience leading a multi-disciplined team within an oil processing or refinery facility;
  • Must be Red Seal Certified within your perspective discipline;
  • PMP, MMP, CMRP, Blue Seal considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated track record of successful execution of maintenance activities;
  • Proven leadership skills to drive a high performing team;
  • Possesses excellent communication, observation, and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the responsibilities to complete the task;
  • Ability to successfully coordinate maintenance preparation and planning;
  • Comprehensive knowled
