ARC Counselling is a private out-patient organization. We provide out-patient treatment and counselling. We offer an 8-week intensive out-patient treatment program and we run a 6-week Family program. We offer individual, couple and family counselling as well as addiction counselling.

Out-Patient Counsellor

General: Reporting to the Department Head of Outpatient, the Outpatient Counsellor is responsible for the implementation of a full range of services including individual, family, and group counselling and therapy consistent with the philosophy and intent of Aurora Recovery Centre (ARC).

Responsibilities :

  1. Assess, counsel, and seek consultation for personal, family, and work-related problems related to member’s addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.

  2. Screen/assess for self-harm/risk factors and create safety plans with members.

  3. Develop interventions and treatment plans with members using a member-centered approach.

  4. Facilitate member group therapy/psycho-educational and family groups.

  5. Provide individual, family, and group therapy.

  6. Make phone calls to family members and members offering support.

  7. Provide conflict resolution and problem solving for members.

  8. Provide support and advocacy for members and family members.

  9. Determine need for additional support post-treatment and identify resources for members.

  10. Complete all member file documentation in accordance with ARC policies and procedures.

  11. Follows ARC policies and procedures for record retention, security, transfer, and disposal of files.

  12. Applies and maintains Health and Safety regulations.

  13. Maintains a clean and enjoyable working environment.

  14. Work collaboratively with all team members and in the best interest of the members.

  15. Attend team meetings, clinical supervision, and staff training as directed.

  16. All other duties assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Possess a minimum of a postgraduate degree in Family Therapy, Psychology, Addictions, or Social Work or an extraordinary combination of education, life experience and ability.

  2. Be registered/licensed with an appropriate professional body or be willing to work towards the same.

  3. Training and demonstrated skill in several clinical modalities (12 step, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused, Emotion-Focused, etc.)

  4. A minimum of 5 years of experience in addictions and co-occurring mental health either as a person in recovery or affected person (also in recovery) or, a minimum of 3 years of experience facilitating individual, family, and group counselling/therapy.

  5. Demonstrated knowledge of the concepts of resistance, engagement, and resilience as these relate to people with addictions and co-occurring mental health disorders.

  6. Possess an empathic presence balanced by assertiveness and willingness to probe.

  7. Demonstrated experience with goal setting and problem solving.

  8. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a team member.

  9. Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional work with mínimal supervision.

  10. Be committed to supporting the philosophy and intent of ARC.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must be in good physical and mental health. May encounter aggressive and/or agitated members/visitors/staff. May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, and physical and emotional stress. Job Location: Work from home and will need a place that is secure and private to ensure confidentiality of members. You may need to work in Gimli at Aurora Recovery Centre once a week as well. May be occasionally required to work extended hours. May be required to work evening and weekend shifts. Regular hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8 am to 4 pm and Thursday 12 pm to 8 pm.

Salary : $26.00-$30.00 per hour
