DAILY ROUTINE/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop of a trusting and therapeutic relationship with families and the community;
  • Teaching of living skills, social skills and parenting skills through role modeling of appropriate behaviour and be able to assess client deficits and strengths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods and approaches to transfer information and skill to participants;
  • Develop strong partnerships with a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Assist participants with the development and maintenance of problem solving skills;
  • Activity planning that involves participants in groups that meet the recreational, educational and/or therapeutic needs;
  • Counseling skills that utilize problem-solving, de-escalation, goal-setting and preventative interventions with clients in either a 1:1 or group scenario;
  • Maintain structure, consistency, and effective follow-up on house rules, routines, and appropriate therapeutic interventions as required;
  • Documentation of session activities, themes and follow-through of the children, youth and their families;
  • Monthly documentation related to participants including service planning, reviews, plans, etc.;
  • Remain within the “Scope of Practice” of Child and Youth Care Counselors;
  • Providing all participants with a sense of safety, acceptance and nurturance
  • Perform additional tasks or duties as directed by the Team Supervisor or Management.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or diploma in a Human Services field (i.e. Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology) would be considered an asset;

  • Current (6 months or newer) and Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Clearance;

  • Current (6 months or newer) Alberta Child Welfare (Intervention) Record Check;

  • Standard First Aid and CPR training;

  • Valid Driver’s License and Clear Drivers Abstract as well as $2 million liability coverage;

  • Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals that may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values and alternative lifestyle choices;

  • Knowledge of family dynamics, addiction, domestic violence and mental health disorders;

  • Excellent knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Agreements;

  • Non-judgmental manner and strong personal boundaries;

  • Demonstrates good writing and communication skills;

  • Experience in working with diverse cultural and religious communities;

  • Understanding of the Client Centred and the Circle of Courage model and Milieu-Based Therapy philosophies of treatment/interventions;

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous culture, beliefs and traditions;

  • Must be available to work weekends (12 hour shifts overnights); :

  • Must be flexible to attend mandatory training.

Job Type : Part-time

Salary : From $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 24 per week
