Experience cultivating and maintaining relationships with a variety of partners and stakeholders. The DeGroote School of Business (DSB) is a comprehensive, research intensive, business school offering undergraduate, graduate and executive development programs across two campuses in Hamilton and Burlington. DSB’s mission is to foster interdisciplinary thinking and evidence-based management to transform business and society. The Faculty provides outstanding educational programs to over 4000 students across B. Comm, MBA, executive MBA, Masters and PhD programs. Annually, over 1300 students enroll in DeGroote’s Executive Education development programs and the Directors College. Over 1200 participants register annually for external outreach events. Consistent with its mission, The DeGroote School of Business has joint programs and partnerships with the Faculties of Health Sciences, Engineering and Humanities and intends to continue to expand interdisciplinary programs as part of the University’s Strategic Mandate Agreement and the School’s strategic plan. DSB is also the administrative home of several interdisciplinary programs and enterprises including the Health Leadership Academy, MSc in eHealth, Bachelor of Commerce in Integrated Business and Humanities and the Directors College. JOB SUMMARY:Academic Experiential Learning (AEL) in the DeGroote School of Business provides vision, strategy, and leadership in building, and redefining the educational journey that combines complex problem solving, critical thinking, adaptability, and creativity to prepare students to be flexible in a rapidly changing world.Under the general direction of the Director, Finance and Administration and the academic direction of the Associate Dean, Undergraduate, and the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, this role is accountable for supporting the strategic leadership, direction, growth, and the successful management of curricular and co-curricular AEL programs, activities, courses, and services. The manager will lead a team of 4 full-time staff to grow the Faculty’s curricular experiential learning opportunities and ensure that exemplary support is provided to all stakeholders, including students, faculty, employers, and community partners.This role identifies, recommends and implements new ways to develop, and support curricular academic experiential learning opportunities for students in the DeGroote School of Business (DSB) programs. Examples of experiential learning include community-engaged learning, live case studies, service learning, simulations, and project-based learning. The role will be responsible for identifying opportunities for academic experiential learning to be incorporated in curriculum at DSB; supporting faculty with the development and implementation of academic experiential learning in their courses; and working with other stakeholders associated with those opportunities. The role will build and manage a robust network of experiential learning HUB activities in the new MCCD building related to the field of business. Additionally, the role will effectively and efficiently implement, and support centralized administrative procedures related to academic experiential learning for new and existing undergraduate and graduate programs in the Faculty.ACCOUNTABILITIES: The role will focus on key delivery areas, including the following goals: 1. Provide leadership and strategy development to enhance and increase the capacity of Academic Experiential Learning program delivery and student enrolment in experiential learning; 2. Under the direction of the Academic leads work with instructors/faculty members, to develop and implement initiatives to increase experiential learning within courses in the DeGroote School of Business, working in partnership with DSB Area Chairs; 3. Have a strong understanding of pedagogical theory and best practices related to experiential learning across various domains (Internships, Research, Global Immersion, Community Engagement, Entrepreneurship); reporting progress in to Associate Dean Undergraduate and Associate Graduate.4. Serve as a senior representative on various campus and external committees, and project teams; 5. Develop and maintain undergraduate academic experiential learning HUB initiatives in the Faculty; 6. Manage all operational aspects of the Academic Experiential Learning unit, including hiring, supervision of staff, budgeting, financial reporting;7. Increase the profile of Academic Experiential Learning in the DeGroote School of Business within the university and to the external community by maintaining an active physical presence within the community and identifying new partners for collaboration; 8. Identify, apply to and manage internal and/or external funding opportunities to enable to growth of academic experiential learning within the Faculty; 9. In consultation with the communications team, develop and implement strategies for promoting Academic Experiential Learning to stakeholders, including students, faculty, alumni, employers and community partners. 10. Create and deliver, briefs, reports, presentations on various topics relating to academic experiential learning practice to faculty, senior managers, and community stakeholders. 11. Track and report Academic Experiential Learning activities and metrics within DSB and centrally as required.SUPERVISION: 4 full-time staff ASSETS:Knowledge of theory and research on experiential learning in higher education. Knowledge of community-based research and program evaluation and/or familiarity with community engagement principles. Experience with ORBIS software platform is an asset.
